Amazon.com Product Description Offering a tantalizing blend of convenience and quality, Sony's amazingly affordable 5-disc Super Audio CD (SACD)/CD changer makes music listening exciting again. Now you can spin hours of consecutive music and enjoy premium-quality sound all from the same carousel player. Depending on the disc, SACD music releases provide super high-fidelity multichannel and/or stereo sound--far greater in resolution than standard audio CDs. The system employ's Sony's proprietary DSD (Direct Stream Digital) digital-to-analog conversion. A 1-bit system operating at an extremely high sampling frequency of 2.8224 MHz (64 times that of standard CD), DSD production begins by converting analog audio (i.e., the original sound signal) to digital without filtering or other techniques that might compromise the integrity of the source. DSD allows for a frequency response that can extend to 100,000 Hz and a dynamic range greater than 120 dB. Multichannel releases offers special, discrete sound mixes created to take advantage of a home theater's front left/right, rear left/right, center channel, and subwoofer configuration, the better to envelop you in your favorite music as you've never heard it before. Most reissued multichannel discs also offer superior-sounding 2-channel (stereo) versions of the albums as you know them. The SCD-CE595 performs its own decoding of SACD signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate multichannel SACD releases. Built-in SACD multichannel speaker management helps you tailor the individual outputs to your system. Choose from a set of stereo and a set of multichannel analog-audio outputs, and--for use with standard CDs--there's also an optical digital-audio output that simplifies hookup with CD and/or minidisc recorders and other audio gear. What's in the Box CD/SACD changer, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, and warranty/registration information.
Product Description Enhance your music experience with Sony's SCD-CE595. Featuring multi-channel super audio CD, this CD player offers a superb sound experience. Additional features include CD/CD-R/CD-RW playback capability, multi-channel management system and multi-channel direct stream digital decoder. Use Jog Dial control with Direct Access track selection to control your listening experience and get ready to rock.

Good sound, good value September 6, 2008 My 17 year old Sony CD player started to get CD's stuck that required a good thump to get the door open. This new players is a good value and a perfect match for my "stack" set up. It's 1 inch deeper so it sticks out the back, but this is not seen.
Like other reviewers, I noted the brighter sound too. I would ask, how is it a piece of electronic gear can "mellow" with use? Dust? Heat? I understand wine and cheeses mellow, but I suspect in this case, it's the human ear adjusting to a brighter sound and that becomes the new norm.
No problems with this unit. I'm looking to buy more SACD's and since most of my collection is classical, I have some good choices. Either way, my current CD's sound the best in years.
Nice SACD deck August 18, 2008 So far seems to work fine. Haven't had a chance to try an SACD so far. But regular ones sound good. Pretty much what I expected.
Floored by its sound quality on all CDs August 15, 2008 I bought this to relieve a DVD player (Oppo DV-980H) of audio duties and to have a changer again. I've used a number of CD and DVD players over the years, but since 2001 when I bought my first Pioneer 5-DVD changer I haven't had a dedicated CD player in my set up. Most reports out there say DVD players make great CD players, and furthermore that the Oppo I own is a remarkable player and all that.
Well, after spending but a few weeks with this player I am convinced they're all wrong. For $150 (or $59 shipped from SonyStyle refurbished like I bought mine, that's right FIFTY NINE DOLLAR FOR A SACD CHANGER) this player reminded me why I used to buy so many CDs (lately I've been shopping for a lot more vinyl). It sounds great, and makes you want to crank it up. I'm not an audiophile - which should be very obvious as I'm raving about an inexpensive Sony CD player, but just to clarify: I'm not an audiophile.
If you're using a basic DVD player, or even a moderately nice one, this player will probably make all your CDs sound much more like they should. The remote is great, it's reasonably speedy with a bit of a slow read when first starting a CD, the changer is as quiet as I've heard... a very nice piece of reasonable electronics.
Have had two in less than a year with same problem August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had always thought Sony was a good product until I purchased this unit. I have not had a working player for a total of one year. The first one stopped reading the CD, so the carousel would just spin around on random play and never stop. Sent it in, cost $10.00, but I received a refurbished replacement. Well it would have been a year in September that I have had that one, and guess what? Yep, carousel spins and spins. Sent it back, now I am being quoted $119.00 to repair/replace with probably another lemon. I see new CD players that cost less than that, I think I'll try a different brand. I'm reading other people's reviews. I'll still stick with Amazon. I think they do a good job. Glad to see them expanding into other products.
Cheap but poorly designed July 1, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This changer takes forever to load a disc, on the order of 20 seconds. In shuffle mode there is also a long delay between songs. It is much, much slower than the Technics changer it replaced in my home. Also the mode selection is confusing and it can't be set to stay in "shuffle" mode even though that is where most users will want it. This was really not designed with a user in mind.
