Greatest picture quality of them all. No kidding October 9, 2008 Terry Monroe (new york) Disregard anyone who may have gotten a faulty switch or some other minor flaw. The fact remains this LCD tv has the best picture of anyone. I looked at over 1000 tvs (not a hyperbole at all). Over two years I looked at tvs in seven different cities and over 45 stores. I stumbled on this picture at a Sam's club and I was in awe. It was so clear. It was so hard to believe that such a cheap TV would have such a perfect picture. See for yourself. You'll see I am not exaggerating one bit.
DO NOT BUY AKAI TV'S - ESPECIALLY THIS ONE!!! June 10, 2008 M. Johnson (USA) This is the absolute BIGGEST JOKE of a TV that you will ever see. I will give it a little credit, the picture looks great, and the price is right, but you'd be better off flushing the same amount of money down the toilet, you'll get the same results. We had this TV for less than 2 months before it broke. It wouldn't turn on after turning it off - you'd have to hit the power button 400+ times before you got lucky enough to have it come on. Then, leave it on or you may not get to use it again. We called Akai and sent it back to be replaced. 5 months later, after 50+ phone calls, we got a refurb TV, only to take it out of the box and have it NOT WORK - are you kidding me??? We called customer care immediately and were told to send it in and they would expedite ship another one. Well, that was 4+ months ago and we're still waiting. So, for nearly $1000 - we were able to watch TV for a month and a half, no replacement TV in sight, and they refuse to refund our money - WHAT A JOKE!!!! I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone - do yourself a favor and buy anything else!!!
Good budget TV January 19, 2008 Eddy Yount (Kansas City, MO) I have this Akai 37" 1080P TV for more than 2 weeks now and am very pleased with the picture and its overall quality. The unit I bought is a recertified unit and I only paid $615, which is a steal. I am still using a basic cable service plan so I don't have any digital signal from my cable box. However this TV is still able to output bright and nice picture. I also connected this TV to a upconverting DVD player (up to 1080i) with a HDMI cable and the DVD playback quality is excellent. There are some weakness on this TV. First, I can't get stereo sign from the MTS button on its remote. However, I am able to get stereo sound after I connected the sound output to my home Hi Fi system. Second, the two 5W speakers of the TV are pretty weak (still useable) but it wouldn't be a concern if you connect it to your Hi Fi like me. Last but probably most noticeable is the screen was not hooked to its base very tight. The screen tends to lean forward so I have to put a couple magazines under the front bottom of the base to keep it from leaning forward. Despite these three minor issues, I still recommend this TV.
