Excellent performance September 20, 2008 Herbert Arthur Rideout I have a Icom R75 receiver and the loop antenna works well with this combination. Long wire antennas tend to be noisy and of course are not directional so the loop solves all those problems. I bought a war surplus loop antenna in 1952 which was used on a World War Two bomber for navigation and it has worked well but the wife was very pleased when I purchased this new one. She said the old one looked like it came off a World War Two bomber. Performance of the Terk seems just a bit better than my old loop and the construction is excellent.
Solid product, no need to plug into radio September 2, 2008 David J. Carlin I bought a radio/CD player (admittedly, pretty cheap - but it looks nice in my office) with no inputs for an antenna. My favorite local AM station was vitually inaudible, with a great deal of hiss and buzzing (odd, because a most other AM stations came in clearly). I figured I'd have to return the radio, but then came across this Terk antenna. I wasn't ready to believe that you didn't need to plug it in - but you don't. You simply set the antenna right next to the radio, tune the antenna's tuner to match the station on the radio, and, at least for me and my single station, it comes in loud and clear.
Happy with the improved reception August 23, 2008 Chad C. Ordered this to get better reception on the AM dial. I listen a lot to talk radio. Works great! Local stations are coming in better than what they were with the generic AM antenna and I am now also able to pick up stations at night that are hundreds of miles away. Having to use the tuning dial on the antenna when changing stations doesn't bother me. Though I have noticed with the stations I listen to that the frequency markings don't line up with where I get the best reception (I've tended to get the best signal at about 100KHz below the actual frequency), so some tuning by ear is required.
Unimpressed Massively, I am August 8, 2008 S. Kelley (kitchen table, eating HUGE quantities) Wanted the critter to function. Longed for decent AM reception. Sadly, despite use with several radios, including a GE SuperRadio, I could detect NO improvement with reception. Nebraska, Missouri and California... used in each state with the same results. Portable radios, large shelf receivers, separate tuners... the Terk did nothing for me. Hooked it up two different ways with no luck. Fiddled about, fiddled about, fiddle... fiddle. fiddle... with the Terk's passive tuner knob and though it helped make a station be heard better the improvement was no better than reception obtained when the Terk was not attached or in close proximity. Me wonders if those lauding the device are not deluding themselves in some way due to my years of use at several venues with nary any success in AM broadcast reception improvement.
Good Distance Antenna for AM and HD August 4, 2008 Putterer (Mount Holly, NJ) I selected this antenna based on the Amazon reviews, and I am quite satisfied with it. The antenna is well made and works well to bring in stations which were marginal. Distance reception is at best, variable, of course.
