Breaks!!! Do not pay all this money for junk! January 30, 2010 M. Schweitzer (Towson, MD USA) This is my second Bose product that has broken in less than two years with just routine use. They replaced my headphones since less than one year but these speakers broke at 1.5 years and the warranty is up and they refuse to replace. Why pay twice as much for poor quality? I just bought Logitech speakers which are half the price and the warranty is two years. How can Bose charge so much and have such poor quality product....the speakers just have to sit on a desk and yet they break....
Love the Sound January 23, 2010 Michael Milliman (CA, USA) This product is after all a Bose. Owing their high tech earphones for air travel, I expected and got an excellent product. Very easy to install. The sound is crisp and I am a happy puppy!
Bose = Overrated. Do not buy these January 7, 2010 Audiophile (Cleveland, OH USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
My wife bought these as a gift for me (probably because they say Bose on them) despite me finding a set of 5.1 speakers for 1/2 the price that got better reviews. I'm an audiophile and I've always been underwhelmed by Bose's sound quality, especially given their high prices. These were actually painful to listen to and within 5 minutes they went back into the box to be returned. They sound like they're out of phase, almost as if there's a delay between the L and R speakers. I don't know what it is, but they sound strange, as if there's something restricting the sound from getting out. They have absolutely NO bass, which is to be expected given their small size, but one thing Bose advertises is their big sound from small packages. Not the case here. The clarity and performance is mediocre at best. I've had a set of Altec Lansing speakers for about 10 years that I picked up for around $45 and they blow the Bose Companion II out of the water. These speakers have reinforced my belief that Bose speakers are made for people with money who don't know any better. If you want trendy looking paperweights that say Bose on them, these are for you. If you want quality sound at an affordable price, look elsewhere.
Decent sound but a little over priced for 2.0 system December 30, 2009 B. Flannery (Bechtelsville, PA United States) Heard speakers at local SAMS club. Impressed with full range sound from small 2.0 system. Overall the sound is faily balanced but can be boomy or muddy with some material. Bought them for my laptop and will work well for general stereo. My Creative 2.1 system on main computer has much cleaner sound and better sound stage for same price and I can control amount of boost in base. Could use tone controls to help balance sound. Generally satisfied but expected more for the price.
Love the sound December 30, 2009 Loving Life (Melbourne, FL) The Bose® Companion® 2 Multimedia Speaker System is a great speaker system. I have found the sound quality to be exceptional, for a two speaker system, and I don't say that because of the Bose hype. Some folks have written about the speaker's strong bass. I found that you can make these speakers sound as good or as bad as you want by adjusting the settings to your sound card or within your sound manager. My sound card came with the Realtek HD Audio Manager. After adjusting the equalizer, these speakers produced exactly the sound I was looking for. Many of today's sound cards have the bass turned up. It's not the speakers, it's your computer's sound settings. Just play with your sound settings until you get the sound that you want. I think that you will be pleased with the results.
After adjusting my own sound settings, I have not noticed any distortion or clarity degradation in any of the ranges. I can't emphasize enough the importance of adjusting your own computer's sound settings. Of course, that holds true with any speakers that you hook up to your system.
I have found these speakers to produce a very clean sound. I spent $69.99 for these speakers and I have found them to be worth every penny.
