I use this with the iPhone 4 and it fits perfect, no issues. I only use this a couple times a month when I travel and it works great as a navigation device with the Magellan RoadMate App. It does a great job of fitting and securing the iPhone even with cases. It also secures very well to the window or dash. I find that it works better with the iPhone 4 than it did with my old 3G. Now it never drops the GPS signal and the whole system starts up and works much faster.
The sound and mic quality are the only weak parts of this item. The speaker is awful when you are driving and there is road noise, you either set it low and can't hear, or turn the volume up and it is too distorted to understand. I am also told by the people I am talking to that the mic is terrible. I have found the iPhone's speaker phone to be more useful, and that is almost unusable in a car on the highway with all the noise. At this price, I really have trouble understanding how the speaker is so bad.
I would highly recommend if you use it like me, mostly for occasional navigation. If you intend need it for phone calls, I would search for something else, I think this will greatly disappoint.

Worked perfectly out of the box!
Not sure why other reviewers are reporting charging problems or dropped GPS signals, etc. I have an iPhone 3Gs and this kit works just as advertised!
1. Charges my iPhone consistently without any problems. Never had a "compatibility" error or failure to charge.
2. Strong & accurate GPS signal. All my GPS apps update & recalculate much much faster and more accurately than when using the iPhone's bulit in GPS.
3. iPhone is a solid fit in the mount.
4. Bluetooth connects without any issues or problems and works fine.
Overall, no complaints! Yes, there are a few things that could be improved (music, bluetooth). But that is always going to be the case with multifunction devices. The main purpose of this kit is to improve your GPS signal and provide a mount and charger. It does that just fine.

I bought this kit a couple of days ago to use with my IPod Touch as a GPS. At first it seemed a great idea, but after using it for a few hours, it appeared not to be functional as it should be. First of all, it doesn't work if not plugged in. If you want to take the kit with Ipod on it to walk a few blocks, it wouldn't work. secondly, it requires the RoadMate app which is currently $49. Without the app, you are to use IPod Maps applicatioion, but no voice guidance. Also, the built-in maps requires a Wi-Fi connection, or you need to load the map while you are online, but search feature will not work. After taking a wrong exit, I desperately stopped in front of each house for a Wi-Fi connection to load the map from current location. As a conclusion, rather than paying $100 for the kit, and $50 for the map, I would buy a decent portable GPS.

I have been looking for a hands free solution for my iPhone which didn't entail doing major surgery to the interior trim. My first attempt was a visor clip-on Motorola device, which doesn't solve the problem of charging the iPhone, so I decided to try what appears to be the best choice out there for the time being.
The Magellan Premium car kit is easy to install with a well design suction cup. The ability to rotate the screen to landscape mode is nice. There are improvements that could be made to the this kit. My major gripe appears to be a difficulty of the iPhone to automatically connect up to the kit and quite often I have to cycle the power on the power plug or manually go into setting on the iPhone to reconnect. I am not certain of this is a iPhone or Magellan deficiency. Other suggestion for improvements is volume control is a little flimsy. The release mechanism could also be made simpler. As it is now, two hands are required to removed the iPhone from the holder. Final two suggestion for improvement would be to add some form of a sun shield to prevent screen being washed out and a smaller more compact cigarette lighter power plug.
