Product Description One of the problems with home-theater surround sound is finding the space to place 6 speakers in a room. It can be a challenge. Sony's HT-CT100 converts the surround experience to 3.1 channels and uses only 2 speakers, a subwoofer and a SoundBar. The SoundBar is placed like a center channel speaker directly over the TV. Speakers within the bar radiate at different angles to deliver center, left, and right channels through a spatially enhanced soundfield. With 50 Watts to each channel + 100 Watts directly to subwoofer, the system delivers 250 watts total. Featuring HDMI - Component Video - Optical A/V ports, you can connect your TV and DVD or Blu-Ray player directly to the system. It's the simplest, most streamlined way to enjoy home-theater surround LPCM Playback - LPCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original 3 Optical, 1-Coax Dolby Digital/DTS/ProLogic

Great sound in a stylish package! March 18, 2010 pellis (Phoenix) Awesome speakers for under $250! I recently bought a Samsung LN52B550 flat panel tv, but the onboard speakers left alot to be desired. I purchased this sound bar expecting to get decent sound but it is way better than expected. Very impressive for such a small soundbar. And you barely even notice it...it sits perfectly on the front of our tv stand. Even my wife loves the look. Our living room, dining room, and kitchen are all part of the same enormous room so we do not experience any "faux surround" like I read on some other reviews, but that's perfectly ok with me. And even though the speaker on the sub is on its right side, I placed the sub on the left side of my tv stand with no ill effect. Just leave an inch or two gap between the sub and the stand and it's good to go.
Definitely recommend this to all!
One Major Lack March 18, 2010 W. D. Jordan (Washington, DC United States) I purchased and set up the HT-TC 100 -- the sound was very good for the size and price, and the HDMI set up was quite easy. However, I had to return it when I discovered that there was no way to make it work with headphones, which, in my home, are a necessity for household peace from time to time. Not only is there no headphone jack on the device itself, there is no way to use the headphone jack on the TV while muting the device.
dissapointing audio adjustment March 14, 2010 Minh Luu i bought this speaker set because i was tired of my crappy sony 46v5100 built-in speaker. i was going to go with a klipsch 2.1 promedia speaker but i decided to buy this instead because of the dts processing, hdmi splitter, and better sony integration.
ultimately, i am not satisfied because i am still having a hard time hearing character dialog and the sound effect are ridiculously loud! i read the whole manual and tweaked with the adjustments for hours to reduce the bass level and try to increase the audio dialog but no real luck. i increased the center speaker to +6 and the sub to -6. i turned on audio DRC to standard for my dolby audio movie. (max just lowers the volume overall) i also played around with the sound fields.
i wish there was volume normalization feature to make audio dialog more pronounced. i have done everything i can. the speaker do sound good, just too much bass for me. i don't want to wait up the neighborhood just to watch a movie.
i have another samsung tv that i hooked up with my klipsch 2.1 promedia. it sounds fabulous and i can hear everything because the tv have a built-in normalizer. i wish sony would fix this issue.
Go to your local Sony store and first check it out March 13, 2010 RD (Chicago IL) Peter B. Degroot review "Good sound for the money with some limitations" form November 20, 2008 best summarizes performance of this product.
Ear Candy Bargain March 13, 2010 D. Munroe 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I put a lot of stock into the Amazon.com reviews about this product. Glad I dismissed the poor reviews (the few). Haven't hooked up to pending new HDTV yet but listened to the Sony system through direct iPod connection. Have been an audiophile for over 30 years and this equipment rivals my cherished Adcom/JBL sound system. Can't get the same separation through a sound bar but for something that costs less than $250, the sound is nothing short of astounding. The high end is as crisp as the titanium tweeters my large JBLs put out and annoying mid range sound is nonexistent. The subwoofer makes the system sound substantially larger than it really is and the crossover with the higher end sound is spot on. As far as the available volume, I wasn't able to max out the system before my wife cried mercy. There is more than enough muscle for most any application. I can't imagine the needs of those who gave a low rating based on volume level. Probably people you'd rather not live next door to. In short, don't hesitate for an instant and make the purchase. There will be no buyer's remorse. Something that sounds this good for less than the price of an iPod rates this as one of the best purchases I've ever made for the price. It will also negate the need to litter your living room with speakers.
