Product Description One of the problems with home-theater surround sound is finding the space to place 6 speakers in a room. It can be a challenge. Sony's HT-CT100 converts the surround experience to 3.1 channels and uses only 2 speakers, a subwoofer and a SoundBar. The SoundBar is placed like a center channel speaker directly over the TV. Speakers within the bar radiate at different angles to deliver center, left, and right channels through a spatially enhanced soundfield. With 50 Watts to each channel + 100 Watts directly to subwoofer, the system delivers 250 watts total. Featuring HDMI - Component Video - Optical A/V ports, you can connect your TV and DVD or Blu-Ray player directly to the system. It's the simplest, most streamlined way to enjoy home-theater surround.
LPCM Playback - LPCM is a method of encoding audio information digitally which can have up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio. This wider bandwidth allows for high resolution audio which is closer to the original 3 Optical, 1-Coax Dolby Digital/DTS/ProLogic

Not enough volume July 3, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought and returned this item within a few hours. Sounds good, but not enough volume. Too bad, because it was exactly what I was looking for.
Takes a bit o'tweaking July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For my needs, this pseudo surround sound solution is perfect. I did not want to run wires all over my house, or feed them through the walls or floor, etc. Nor did I want some flaky wireless rear speaker 5.1 solution.
I wanted something simple, elegant, with as few wires as possible. I have the Samsung LN52A550 television, and wanted something to complement it well. I looked at the Samsung HT-X810 2.1 soundbar with the integrated upscaling DVD player for compatibility sake, but it was too large and way to expensive ($600 and no blu-ray?!).
The Sony CT-100 works great so far. The small, unassuming speaker fits perfectly under my LCD panel and it complements it well. The subwoofer reminds me of a PC tower, but I love the fact that it includes three (3) HDMI inputs. I routed my HD cable box and an upscaling Sony DVD player into it.
At first, I found some of the vocal dialogue sound from 5.1 sources a bit muted, but I tweaked the system to my liking (+4 center speaker; -3 subwoofer; Movie soundfield), and this seems to fix the problem right up.
All in all, this won't replace a true 5.1 system, but the right and left simulated surround sound works surprisingly well. Then again, I have a family room on the average to small side, and this system might work better in these types of environments.
All in all, this is exactly the system I was looking for - it's simple, sounds good, and looks good.
Sounds good June 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Puts out some great sound, minus the copious amounts of speaker wire normally needed. Sometimes sounds canned, especially with standard definition TV (2.0 Stereo), but with HD (5.1) and Blu-Ray stuff, it sounds awesome! Haven't experienced the full surround sound capabilities, and sounds the best at higher volumes.
Very good surround effect June 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great performing surround bar. Great bass Set up was very easy, takes hdmi pass thru you may need an extra hdmi or optical audio cable depending on your preferred set up
a great low priced sound system June 21, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
i have had this sound bar for a few months now and i love it. For a small room or a room where you can run wires easily this is perfect. It does a very good job simulating 5 speakers, you actually can hear sound from behind like an actual 5.1 set up. Also on my HDTV i only have one HDMI input but with this system you can hook up 3 things with HDMI, i have my Xbox 360 cable box and PS3 all hooked up with HDMI where before i had to only by cable box with HDMI. the subwoofer is also very powerful, makes action movies really kick with explosions, my family always telling me to turn down. But i would deffently recommend this sound bar to anyone who doesnt want to run wires everywhere or doesnt have the room for a 5.1 system.
