2 out of 5 stars Just a guide   January 30, 2008

This is a package of two speaker guides, appropriate for helping locate two speakers in the ceiling.

These are not mounting brackets. These are mounting guides to assist in positioning the speakers before drywall is installed. These provide no support for the speakers to the joists. Each guide consists of a plastic ring attached to a flimsy mesh part through which you are supposed to drill to the joist. The ring has a lip which indicates where in the drywall to cut the hole, and how big to cut the hole.

I don't think these are very useful. Once the drywall is installed, it's not difficult to cut a hole where you want the speaker; you don't need a guide for that (unless you lose your studfinder).
