Early Review September 7, 2008 What we like about the product:
Readability if excellent. Wireless Purchases are very nice. Good form factor.
What we don't like about the product:
Button placement. No way to review purchases on the Kindle.
Let me expand on the last item. During our last trip, we purchases several books. (Which is awesome. If you are stuck in the car for longer than you planned, you won't run out of reading material.) However, it would have been nice to review the purchases on the Kindle when we got to the hotel room. (We didn't have internet access to check the email account.)

purchased this for my wife. She reads a book or two a week and loves it.
kindle for the disabled September 7, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My husband has ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and is paralyzed from the neck down except for a little control of one thumb. Although he could listen to books on tape (IPod), he missed the act of reading. With the Kindle, he can read again! It has added an entire new dimension to his life. Once it is set up for him, he can press the button to change the page. We put a bit of duct tape on his thumb with the sticky side out so that he can control the button.
Before I purchased the Kindle, I emailed you and phoned you, and your representatives were very helpful and courteous.
By the way, my husband is a Brit, and now he can download the Sunday London Newspaper, which he greatly enjoys.
This product is a great adaptive device for many disabled persons. Thank you!
Great, but..... September 7, 2008 I love the Kindle, but like lots of folks it comes up short in two areas:
folders (that sure would be nice) and repositioned/resized page turn buttons. Other than that, I'd give it 5 stars.
I love my Kindle September 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been debating whether to buy a Sony Reader or an Amazon Kindle since before Christmas last year. I saw the Reader and thought it was a good idea but then I started looking around the web to see what I could find out about it and ran across the Kindle. That made the debate even more difficult until I finally saw one in person. I was hooked and ordered one with in a week after seeing it. I wanted something before we leave Friday for Africa because I knew I would not be able to carry enough books for the flight there and back. I have taken it on 2 trips to Oregon and it is great! I have had mixed reactions from the flight attendants about turning it completely off during take off and landing. I've done it both ways. I do try to rememeber to turn it completely off before sending it through airport security just because some of the blogs have indicated it might be better.
It did freeze on my one time but was fine once I reset it.
My only problem (other than hitting the page turner a lot at first, although that is a much less frequent problem now) is the number of books I have ordered. I knew there would be quite a few at first so that I'd have enough for our trip, but my husband called me on it when we got the Visa bill....Oh well, I should be set for a while :) I do check the Kindle Books available at Amazon, sorted by low to high, and snag free books when they are available
I would highly recommend the Kindle to anyone that travels. It sure saves carrying a pile of books. It is also nice when reading in bed. it is not nearly as heavy as a hardback book and is easier for me to hold than a paperback. There is a great marketing opportunity for these when using it while traveling. I have had so many inquiries when people see me reading it. Usually they look from a distance, then move in to start asking questions. I love to show it to people!
