Product Description
The incredibly low-profile OMNISAT v2 Satellite incorporates a versatile mounting bracket; allowing easy installation of the speaker just about anywhere - on the wall, on the ceiling, on a bookshelf, or on the matching OMNISAT v2 stand. The satellites are magnetically shielded so that they can even be placed on or next to the television without distortion. As with all speakers that feature Mirage's exclusive OMNIGUIDE design, the OMNISATv2 should be inverted with the grille facing downwards when it is mounted above 6 feet. This unique design approach guarantees the same tonal balance and dispersion characteristics no matter how and where the speakers are mounted. The OMNISAT v2 Satellite is the most versatile product in this new series since it can be used as front speaker, center channel and surround speaker. The OMNISAT v2 Satellite can be matched up with the OMNISAT v2 CC center channel and/or the OMNISAT v2 FS. Alternatively, the satellites can be placed around the room as a complete home theater system. The amazing sonic performance, elegant design and the unlimited mounting options also make the OMNISAT v2 the ideal speaker for a dedicated two channel stereo set-up, especially when space is at a premium. Just by adding one of Mirage's finest OMNI subwoofers, a phenomenal 2.1 stereo set-up can be created. The OMNISAT v2 Satellite features a 4.5" Polypropylene Titanium Deposit Hybrid Woofer and Mirage's proprietary 1" PTH Tweeter for superior sound reproduction. The OMNISATv2 measures at 8-ohm nominal impedance (4 ohm minimum), has a frequency response from 70Hz~20kHz +/- 3dB and its power handling is rated at 150 Watts.

5 out of 5 stars Remarkable little speakers - open, clear room-filling sound   March 24, 2007

If you're looking for compact, attractive speakers that sound great, it's hard to do better than the Mirage Omnisat. They are very clear and open, without any of the boxiness or dull sound that conventional compact speakers often have.

They are an especially good choice if you're looking for speakers for a room that isn't a dedicated home theater with the recommended layout. That is, if you have an irregular room, multiple seating areas, or a room you use for more than just watching movies and listening to music, the Omnisats do an amazing job of filling the room with nice sound. Many conventional speakers only sound good at one spot in the room.

This is the second generation of Mirage's Omnipolar satellite speakers, hence the name - Omnisat V2. Omnidirectional speakers such as these spread sound into a large area, that is, they have very wide dispersion. That's part of how these little speakers fill the room with sound.

You can use these in any speaker position (including the center), or combine them with the matching V2 floorstanding and center speakers in any combination.

With 8 ohms impedance, they are compatible with any receiver/amplifier. The 89db sensitivity means they will be easy to drive - they don't need an excessive amount of power to produce sound. But with power handling of up to 150 watts, they can produce a lot of sound.

A couple things to note in thinking about whether they are right for you:

- The Omnisats are very small for the sound they produce, but they aren't tiny speakers at 5-9/16"W x 8-1/8"H x 5-15/16"D. Look at the dimensions, and find something about that size at home to give you an idea of how they'll fit in. (Mirage does make the smaller Nanosat, and while they're nice you'll definitely need a subwoofer if you use those.)

- Alternatively, if you have space, use these just as satellites and get the FS (floorstanding) and center speaker that perfectly match these. Or, look at the OMD-5 or the less expensive OMD 150, both of which use a 5.5" woofer.

- If you have a room with lots of very hard surfaces (all glass and walls, not much drapery and carpets) there may be a lot of sound reflections in the high end from these omnidirectional speakers, so they may sound "bright" or a bit harsh in your room. Getting them placed right might help reduce that, but they still might not be the best choice in such a room.

- Despite their amazing ability to fill a room, as with all speakers placement relative to where you're listening from is essential to getting the best sound. You need to be able to look into the speaker from where you're sitting for it to sound best.

There are quite a few audio magazine reviews of these speakers if you Google on Mirage Omnisat V2 review. Also, there are reviews, info and good photos at the actual Crutchfield site.
