Buy at Target for $20.00 June 21, 2008 Mason J. Thornberg (Mason6883) I bought these at Target almost a year ago for $20, so I was shocked to see them listed here for $80. Anyway, these speakers are great, and I would definitely buy them again. Last week I accidentally washed them with a load of laundry - and they came working in (almost) the same condition as they went in. They put out a loud (but still clear and good quality) sound for their small size. A++
surprised at how bad they are May 31, 2008 ratyoke (San Diego, CA USA) I got these for work, because I want to listen to my MP3 player, and sometimes I am in an area with no AC power. Since these can use batteries they appeared to be just what I was looking for. I didn't expect great sound, but I was still surprised by how bad the sound really was. Take a pair of headphones, plug them into your MP3 player or whatever, set them on the table and turn the volume up. That's kind of how these sound. I was in a hurry to get some speakers and didn't do any research on them or what my other options were and I am now regretting it. I consider these to be a waste of $30.
Comparing Sony SRS-M30 and Logitech mm-32 portable speakers April 26, 2008 MadMax (SW Colorado) In preparation for a month's travel in Europe, I bought both the Sony SRS-M30 and the Logitech mm-32 portable speaker systems, intending to test them side-by-side and return one of them. The Sony is a bit less expensive, smaller, and lighter than the Logitch, but the sound quality is decidedly inferior to the Logitech. The Logitech also includes a slick padded carrying case with a separate compartment for the power supply. But at only 8.4 oz. for the Sony compared to 15.6 for the Logitech, it was a pretty even trade-off between sound and weight. If operating in battery mode, the Sony uses 3 AAAs whle the Logitech needs 4 AAs, increasing the weight differential by 2.2 oz. As I travel with only one carry-on convertible suitcase/backpack, weight is an important consideration. The AC power supply units decided the issue. The Logitech is rated at 100-240v (suitable for both U.S. and foreign use) while the Sony is rated at 120v, limiting it to North America. I returned the Sony.
Not for a laptop March 17, 2008 Kevin Hudson (Lexington, KY USA) I got these for my laptop, since it is an ultraportable and has horrid speakers. These speakers were (believe it or not) worse. They distort sound significantly, and they seem to have such a small frequency response that the sound that comes out barely sounds like music. It is more like a very tinny representation of music. Even if you are only using these with an mp3 player, you deserve better sound. Save up a bit more and buy a Logitech speaker system.
The Tiny Terror August 23, 2007 Joshua Horn (Wickliffe, Ky United States) These caught my eye because they were white, and a Sony product. I thought they would be perfect for my new white Sony Vaio CR laptop... I was excited about these because they were compact and would fit nicely with my other laptop accessories. Boy, I was really pumped to plug these tiny terrors in.. When I did, I sure found the meaning for terror that I wasn't looking for. I had my iTunes playlist going and I plugged in these little Sony SRS-M30's and VROOooomm... The volume dropped a considerable amount. I got high gain and a nice crackling white noise effect. It sounded like a full band playing through a kazoo. I would really like to take these back. I wouldn't be so upset if the back of the box didn't show a diagram of the speakers connecting to a laptop with built in speakers and advertised them as having a high powered built-in amplifier. I definitely didn't get the product for my bucks. $30 down the drain. I would only recommend getting this if you really want something to plug into your MP3 player that's compact and easy to carry around.
