Product Description Beneath the sleek exterior of each 161 speaker resides the technology that makes these speakers so versatile. Two proprietary Twiddler drivers in each enclosure help the 161 speaker rival speakers of much larger size. Articulated Array speaker design positions those drivers to provide a large, consistent sound field so you can enjoy Stereo Everywhere speaker performance from almost anywhere in the room. In your dorm, office or living room, youll enjoy the rich, full musical performance these small speakers can provide. And they are also an ideal choice for home theater applications. Connect them to your existing home theater system and enjoy Bose sound from your favorite movies. With custom mounting brackets, these elegant speakers offer a range of placement options throughout your home or office.
Amazon.com Product Description A versatile choice for both listening to music and appreciating the sonic splendor of big-budget blockbusters, the Bose 161 multipurpose speaker system offers topnotch sound in an elegant package. Unlike conventional speakers, which radiate sound in a single direction, these speakers use Bose's Articulated Array and Stereo Everywhere technologies to project sound throughout the entire room, so listeners in the corner can appreciate the same subtleties as those in the middle. In addition, the proprietary Twiddler drivers (two 2.5-inch drivers in each enclosure) make the speakers sound much larger than they actually are. The end result is a consistently impressive sound field that simulates the cinema experience. Meanwhile, the speakers' actual size--they measure 11 inches wide by 4.12 inches tall--belies their big sound, so you can store them easily in compact locations, such as small dorm rooms or crowded offices. They even come with mounting brackets for installing on a wall or ceiling. The speakers' sleek black housing also blends into practically any decor. Additional features include magnetic shielding, which protects your TV from video interference, and automatic overdrive protection. The speakers are computer tested for quality and reliability and carry a five-year warranty from Bose. What's in the Box Left speaker, right speaker, mounting brackets, self-adhesive rubber feet, user's manual.

Bose 161 Speaker System August 27, 2008 Thomas Davino (Southington, CT) I now have 4 of these for my 5.1 set up and I absolutely love them. They sound fantastic and the price is pretty reasonible. I have a Bose center channel and a pioneer powered sub and I couldn't be happier with my sound.
WOW! August 25, 2008 S. Bentley I can't understand people who are bashing these speakers. They are what they are. If you plan on getting big sound out of them just by themselves, it's just not going to happen (not that they sound bad, but your just not going to get the bass). But add a powered subwoofer and lookout. I am using these as my "MAIN" speakers over the fireplace and I am also using them with a JBL 10" powered subwoofer and they sound amazing. Let the sub handle all the lows and let these babies carry all the mids and highs and your ears are in for a treat. Awesome for movies as well.
Excellent Speakers for Flat Panel June 12, 2008 Jaffrey W. Ali (McLean, VA United States) I used these speakers to replace the original speakers that came with my Pioneer Elite Plasma (PRO 150FD). I needed a bookshelf speaker set that was non intrusive. These speakers sound much better than the original TV speakers, are hidden from view and the sound dispersion is great. These are excellent value and I am pleased with how they have worked out in my set up.
Bose 161 Speakers exceeded my expectations May 12, 2008 W. Thomson (Ohio) These speakers when combined with the Bose Center speaker deliver fantastic quality for HD TV broadcasts in Dolby Surround mode. I have them connected to a Sony STR-DG510 Home Theater Receiver that has an auto setup feature of the speakers in a surround system. With this combo the dialog is clear and the special effect sounds are as good as in the theater. When you couple this with the fact that they are compact and easily located for the best theater sound I have been kicking myself for not replacing my old speakers sooner.
A disappointing small speaker system from Bose April 23, 2008 BillH (DeForest, WI USA) We bought the Bose 161 as a compact speaker system for a small room to replace a larger, older Bose bookshelf system. We picked the 161 based on the Bose name and our previously positive experience with their products. Unfortunately, the 161 has very poor bass response. The highs and mid-reange are clear, but without the bass end of the sound spectrum, the sound is flat, almost tinny. We returned the product to Bose and got a prompt refund. Not recommended.
