4 out of 5 stars Surprising product after all   September 29, 2008
maxGamer (Seattle, Washington)
After reading some of the reviews here I had my doubts as to whether this little gadget collection would be worth 30 bux. Well, I'm pleasantly surprised. We've used it with several tornado warnings and had no problems that weren't solved by reading the manual. In fact, most of the issues on the reviews here are easily solved by reading a bit.
I don't know what's with people these days. I guess they expect the devices to start talking and tell them what to do.
Here's our results.

Pro:
Comes with a built in very bright, yet adjustable, set of LED lights in lamp shape.
Comes with a great radio that picks up AM weather stations well.
Has storage in the back
Heavy enough to beat the kids with.

Cons:
Turning the crank to power the radio isn't a "three cranks and go for 45 minutes thing". You need to crank the heck out of it to get it running and even if you crank it for a good long while you're still going to need to turn on the lamp so you can watch for the battery running down (it goes dim just before).

1 out of 5 stars Emergency alarm doesn't work. Poor customer service.   July 5, 2008

I bought this radio because we camp and needed something that would alarm in the night in the event of severe weather. I have read through the little owners manual that came with the radio and have tried every combination of settings to get the weather alert to work. I have written the company twice for help and have not received any response. The other features work well, but the feature I bought it for either doesn't exist or is too complicated for me or my techy hubby to figure out. And the customer service doesn't seem to exist either.

This is a cute radio and it is gadgety. But not useful for our purposes. We wanted a weather radio that would have an alarm when bad weather was in the area. This one has an alarm, but did not know how it worked. We will be getting one from Radio Shack.

I was very surprised to see how much this radio does. It is a very good value, and it is a great asset to my emergency preparedness kit.
