Product Description As part of the second generation of Onkyo high-definition-capable receivers, the TX-SR606 is at the forefront of affordable home theater. The key is to have the most capable version of HDMI. The TX-SR606 provides high-definition video and audio processing for four source components - another first for Onkyo at this level. From Blu-ray Disc players to gaming consoles and cable/satellite boxes, you have everything in the digital realm covered. Apart from 1080p video, the TX-SR606 can upscale all video signals to 1080i, regardless of the connection, for output via HDMI. Onkyo's own RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) also gives you inter-operability with the displays and playback components from other leading brands. The TX-SR606 maintains the fullness of surround sound audio quality at low volume levels. The TX-SR606 offers all-round excellence rarely seen at this level.

Lost video signal July 20, 2008 I had this product for about 2 weeks and absolutely loved it when it lost the video signal from the HDMI output. I was so impressed with it that I figured this was a very unusual problem and got another one. My vendor, WholesaleAV was fantastic and immediately refunded my money with free shipping back to them, but they did not have any more in stock so I had to order a replacement from another vendor. The replacement is also fantastic and I have never had better sound, or an easier set up than I have had with this. I have owned a Sony AV receiver, then a Pioneer AV receiver and the Onkyo blows them away!
Onkyo TX-SR606 July 20, 2008 This receiver is awesome. The sound is crystal clear and the bass is dynamic. I replaced my Sony 5.1 receiver with this and was amazed at the difference. You can turn the volume low and still get the full range of sound. I am still running a 5.1 speaker system and can't wait to utilize the full 7.1 capabilities. This has more connections than any other receiver in this price range and especially if you are looking to utilize the HDMI pass throughs for all your HD devices. Extremely happy with this purchase. In addition, Amazon.com is great with inexpensive shipping and fast delivery.
Very nice receiver at good price, but a few quirks July 20, 2008 The receiver works very well, the speaker calibration feature is nice.
I did have an occasion when it stopped transmitting HDMI, and had to be unplugged, and another occasion when it stopped transmitting sound (from HDMI inputs), and had to be power-cycled (from the remote).
It's nice to finally be close to the cutting edge! July 20, 2008 I ordered the onkyo TX-SR606 June 19 and received it on June 24 good work Amazon! With this receiver I am upgrading from a an old Kenwood AVR that only had Dolby Pro...now I have it all even TrueHD and DTS-HD Decoding..life is good! There is a little bit of a learning curve with this receiver (but that is true of all modern AVR's today) but I had it up and running to complete satifaction within an hour of receipt. so far I have not expereinced any problems but the only thing I have connected to the HDMI inputs is my Dell XPS PC with a Blu-Ray drive and except for the underscan at full resolution the image is great. My old Panasonic DVD changer wich is connected via component and TOS optical and the image and sound is 1000% better than it has ever been the DVD of "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the lost Ark" looks abosolutly Hi-Def upconverted to 1080i. I bought this along with a Samsung HL61A750 61-Inch 1080p LED Powered DLP HDTV, which replaces a 32" Sony Trinitron so my Audio Video experience is finally all it should be. I will also be receiving the new BDP-S350 1080p Blu-Ray Disc Player tommorow from Amazon and with that all will be perfect in my A/V world. Yes life is good!
Great receiver July 20, 2008 I purchased this receiver to use with some Klipsch speakers that I purchased on woot.com. I did a lot of research, and this was the best bang for the buck for what I was looking for to compliment the $500 speakers.
This receiver allowed me to set up HDMI switching, plug in all of my hardware (DVD, XBox, Playstation, Zune), and easily customize the speakers for any room setup with the use of the auto-configuration microphone that is included with the receiver. I was going to spend $100 for a HDMI switch at best buy, but this receiver has this function already included with it, so I figure that money went towards the cost of the receiver.
The controller that is included can be used for almost any cable/satellite box and television on the market.
Great buy! Sound output is great through my Klipsch speakers.
