Not bad... September 27, 2008 Daniel Fiero The Meizu MiniPlayer SL is a great little music player for the price. It has a fully featured UI that is very user friendly. Plays FLAC and OGG!!! You don't find many players that can handle those less-used formats of digital audio. However, the firmware is buggy in a few little spots. On particular songs, the encoding gives the audio a choppy, stuttering quality. Very disorienting. Also, when you create a playlist, the player will load all of the ID3 tag data at once when you play the first song. This causes the player to stop functioning (won't respond to your button presses, but it continues to play whatever song you were playing before). This is quite annoying, considering the only way to make it stop is to hold the power button for 10 seconds to turn it off and make it stop, or to make very small playlists. Or you could just avoid playlists altogether. A version of Rockbox is in development for the MiniPlayer, so users need not worry that they will have to deal with the crappy firmware forever. Anyway, the MiniPlayer SL is overall a good player for the price, there are just a few bugs to work out.
Touch Pad Controls Way Too Sensitive September 1, 2008 Robert E. Neiman Jr. (Pompano Beach, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have had my Meizu 8 gig for about 6 months. I will say that the sound is good. The design looks real cool, but it is not functional. The controls drive me crazy! I'm not a klutz and am fairly technically oriented but your fingers need the fine motor control of a professional sculpture to control this thing. If you are a runner, forget about doing anything but listening to it. Changing the volume or changing a song is a true adventure. You end up in all kinds of menus that you don't want to be in. Even trying to change settings while standing still with the player on a table is difficult. Customer support is non existent other than reading posts on the Meizu site where you can read the unanswered woes of other Meizu users. Lord help you if your Meizu needs an update, their website has scores of people with frozen players. I am going back to Sandisk.

Just to warn the masses: I bought one of these last October as a 16th birthday gift for my one and only handsome and electronically gadget savvy nephew. I searched long and hard on the Web in order to find an MP3 player that would beat Apple at its own game but not cost me the extra arm and a leg for the iPod cache. I found the Meizu on Amazon, read the glowing reviews and bought the thing. Nephew loved the player, said that it was easy to use, sounded great, made him the envy of all his friends, and I immediately became his favorite uncle for life. (All right, so I'm inferring a bit on the last part here...) Cut to six months later: he informs me that the Meizu died - completely, utterly, totally gone-baby-gone D-I-E-D died. As of this posting, efforts to reach Dane-Elec about service or a replacement have met with an eerie silence. So, if you all want to have a great player for about half a year, this is the one for you. Otherwise, keep looking.
Double the Performance, Half the price of the Ipod August 1, 2008 Zach Moore (Durham, NC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
So after my ipod mini broke, i was in search of a new mp3 player. I had enough of Itunes and apple's crap, and i ran across this player. I am in love with this thing!, plenty of storage space, amazingly clear video, great sound quality, and easy to control. My favorite part of this thing is that it is very easy to personalize, you can change the wallpaper, the font color, the scroll bar color, and a few others to make this thing look awesome! Also the EQ options are excellent and give just as good of sound as my PC. All in all this is a great player and i highly reccomend it! The only Con i can think of is it can be tricky to get album art, but all i had to do is switch the usb setting and sync with WMP. Sometimes if you change the rating of a song in WMP and connect the miniplayer later, it re-syncs the song. But none of these are troublesome at all, there is tons and tons of support and guide on the forums at meizu's website.

Excellent MP3 player with a high-resolution screen and a decent battery life. Touch sensitive pad has an intuitive design and it took sometime to get familiar with. Accompanies with video converter software, which is simple and very easy to use (I tested a full 2 hr movie loading on it and it worked flawlessly - movie captions are even readable. Why only 4 stars? Volume control lacks fine adjustments at low level and does not come with a carrying case/cover.
