4 out of 5 stars good fit for my ears   July 24, 2008
I have a problem with earbuds not fitting properly and causing discomfort, these though fit nice and are comfortable, the sound is great.

5 out of 5 stars Forget the jBuds - buy these!   July 23, 2008
I just posted a review of the jBuds - basically of how they failed after 6 months. The wires inside the headphone plug became "loose" (but would work if you held the wire a certain way) and eventually stopped working altogether. I needed a replacement set of headphones, and was going to buy the jBuds again, but I saw that the Cobys were ranked #1 in earphones and noise-canceling earphones. Though the first review of the Cobys says "Go with the jBuds," I still felt compelled to read the other reviews: I wanted to try the Cobys out.

I am glad I did.

These headphones work just as well as the jBuds, but without the $20 price tag and the different size silicone earbuds (which I lost most of anyway). I've had these headphones for a few weeks - the sound is nice and crisp, the bass is good, and it does an excellent job of noise-canceling. All for the low-low price of six dollars.

Though the jBuds do also get good reviews, a lot of the more recent reviews of the jBuds were less than stellar, and a few people had the same concerns I did about the funky wire problem. If the Cobys break, so what? I can still buy another two pairs for the same amount as one pair of the jBuds. Maybe I'm a little tougher on the headphones (used for walking, working out, commuting) so I don't always store them neatly - and if I shorten their lifespan because of the way I use them, then I'll just keep buying more Cobys.

I highly recommend these headphones. If you're an audiophile and can tell slight differences in audio equipment, maybe these aren't for you. If you're an average joe looking for cheap replacement headphones for your iPod/MP3 player, these are excellent!

4 out of 5 stars WOW for the price   July 20, 2008
suprised to find a $5 colby headphone with such great sound. Nice bass, and nice depth. I just hope that it lasts for more than a few months. Been using it for a few weeks now...everywhere from walking around town to working out in the gym. Only complaint would be that the headphone jack or whatever you call it is in the "L" shape...not convenient if you're using it with small mp3 players like the new iPod nano, like me.

5 out of 5 stars Great sound and great comfort given the low price tag for in-ear phones!   July 17, 2008

Sound Quality:
It would be unfair to compare these earphones to the likes of in the ear headphones like Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones or Philips SHE9850 In-Ear Headphones with Advanced Acoustics. They reproduce the highs and lows much more clearly than these these Coby earphones but are about 12-15 times pricier than these ear phones.

However, the Coby earphones compare very favorably to the in earphones in the sub $25 range like Philips SHE9500 Ultra Sound In Ear Headphones or JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (White). The sound of these Coby earphones is decent, good bass and good noise reduction. The noise reduction is not as great as some of the sub $100 earphones I have used but is good enough for listening on a plane ride. This is probably the best noise reduction you can get in the sub $20 range!

Comfort:
These are one of the more comfortable in ear phones I've owned. The flex rubber sleeves are thinner than usual and fit comfortably in the ear. I can wear them for hours without feeling any discomfort. They also don't fall out which is a big plus. The only in ear headphone that was more comfortable than these is the Philips SE9850 that came with memory foam sleeves that molds to fit your ears.

Make:
The make of these earphones is ok. The cord is quite thin and does have a tendency to tangle a bit. When you get them you have to tear apart the cord as per your preference, there is a little plastic sleeve midway to ensure you don't end up tearing them all the way down. They did seem a bit flimsy to me but in 2 months of use these earphones have held up quite well. And seriously, even if they do get damaged after a few months it will take only $5 to replace them.

Overall:
If you're like me and like to have more than one earphone lying around, this is a great product. After I lost my $100 Shures when they fell out of my pocket, I prefer to take these with me for more active trips. They sound good, don't fall out of my ears and hold up well to moderately rough use...and if I lose them, no big deal...just drink some Pepsi and get a new pair!
