3 out of 5 stars Not the best...   April 30, 2007

It's overall an OK unit, however you can get more for a couple more bucks: Panasonic CQ-VD6503U 6.5" Wide Screen Touch-Panel LCD Monitor/DVD Video Receiver

Before going into more detail let me say that I'm very picky when it comes to audio (on an average budget!).

I bought this unit to go into my 2007 yaris hatchback in Venezuela (same model as the USA one but with 5 doors).

Here are the pros I see:
1. The image quality is pretty good and it has the biggest screen tha could fit on a 2 din dash.
2. The price is ok, you won't find a lot of in dash 2-din dvd players in this price range.
3. Power: this thing pumps out a lot of power from it's amplified outputs although I don't believe the 85w per channel claim.
4. Features: it packs lots of features for the price, there are even some features that are not on the amazon.com or bossaudio.com sites, IE: SD card slot, USB port, TV antenna....
5. Plays everything (CDs, MP3, WMA, VCD, DVD, etc, etc...)

Now, the cons and reasons I didn't like the unit and why it's now listed on mercadolibre.com (ebay.com equivalent in latin america):

1. The screen frame is bulky and it doesn't fit my car's dash. I'm not sure if this is a design problem of the car or if the screen frame is indeed too big.
2. Power != Quality. Audio quality is not very good. It's not very bad either.
3. Lack of EQ settings. This thing comes with 3 preset EQs and only bass and treble settings. It has a dynamic bass function or something but doesn't help much. I like to customize my audio as much as possible. Bass and treble only doesn't do it for me.
4. The touch screen is almost a gimmick on this unit. You will navigate the functions a lot easier with the remote than with the touchscreen. For example: when playing a MP3 disc you can't select songs or folder by directly touching it. When you touch the screen an OSD comes up with arrows to navigate it as if you where using the remote wich is actually more responsive than the screen.
5. The user interface is UGLY! This guys should hire a graphics designer to aid them design a new UI. It is just ugly! Feels like a cheap "SONI" dvd player...
