Don't buy this gadget! July 1, 2008 P. Randhol This is absolutely useless gadget. My version didn't reduce the noise but actually gave me a hissing sound on the right ear. Contacting JVC was fruitless. I still haven't gotten a reply to my complaint 1 month ago. Do yourself a favour and save your money... I get more noise reduction with Creative ear plugs
Stick to over the ear or standard headphones June 7, 2008 AKO California (Los Angeles) These have good sound and good sound isolation. However, most of the sound isolation comes from the effectiveness of the earpiece seals. Turning on the noise cancellation while on a plane results in a hissing sound similar to turning the volume way up to hear the audio on a weak audio recording. This is probably because it is doing what it should and creating an opposite soundwave to cancel out the background sound. But since the outside noise is blocked a lot by the rubber earpieces, the outside sound is not getting in, but the cancellation sounds are. Turn cancellation off and it gets quieter. Lower frequencies are cancelled out because I think they make it through the rubber but the higher hertz hissing stands out so much that I'm indifferent between having the cancelation active or not. The rubber earpieces do a good enough job on their own. My on the ear (and bulky) Panasonic RP-HC-100 headphones do a great job of drowning out just about all sounds. A slight hiss remains, but at maybe half the volume. If I pull the earpieces of these JVC's slightly out of my ears, the noise cancelation does work but the general noise level is higher. Turn the cancellation off and the noise being cancelled out becomes apparent. In other than airplane environments, they do seem to work better. But I don't really need noise cancelation except on a plane. For a plane, I should have just bought many of the less expensive heaphones with the same kind of rubber earpiece. The noise cancellation just increases the price with no real benefit.
Very effective product. May 2, 2008 James Kirk Wiggins (Al USA) I've had two noise cancelling headsets and these are by far the best. If there is a fire in my building I'm toast. Also I can't hear the phone ring. LOL. Glad it has a flashing light.
Poor expectations April 2, 2008 Honest Abe (Florida) Although excited when received, very disappointed when used. The phones did not seem any better then the one I was using. The base sound was just fair and the noise canceling did not seem any different. Would not reccomend this product. Sorry...........
If I could have given ZERO stars, I would have February 23, 2008 NJ Dave (NJ) This product is, plain and simply, falsely advertised. I fly often between coasts and bought these for listening to my ipod on the plane. To market these as "noise cancelling" is flagrantly deceptive marketing. I actually found the sound WORSE with the noise cancelling feature turned ON. The earbuds alone drown out a good deal of the aircraft engine noise...that's probably where they get most of the "80% sound reduction" from. The noise cancelling feature created an annoying buzzing sound in the background. Now I'm faced with how to get a refund with no packaging or receipt. Thank you JVC!
