5 out of 5 stars Great product   December 28, 2008

I've used these headphones for over 5 years with complete satisfaction. I could never enjoy airplane audio before. On long flights I can sleep by blocking nearby conversations and engine noise. Are they worth the price compared to other noise cancelling options? Don't know. When the dog recently ate my first set I didn't want to gamble so I returned to known quality.

1 out of 5 stars Good electronics, bad materials and construction: Don't buy   December 26, 2008

I haved used the QC2 mainly for long flights (trans-Atlantic/Pacific) and altogether maybe less than two dozen flights since I have it for a couple of years. I used it to listen to on flight movies and audio books, so no high end audiophile review here. I bought it mainly because of the noise cancelling feature. The headphones worked fine for me; it was comfortable and its noise cancelling was as expected. After each use, the headphones went to its case and was well taken care of.

But to my dismay and as reported by others, the headband broke on both the left and right sides at different times. I mended it using super-glue and black electrical tapes -- it was ugly but work-able. The last straw was that the plastic/rubber material on the headband and ear cups were flaking like mad. Little bits of black rubber were everywhere and clinged to everything. It could not be UV-light because my headphones was never in the sunlight. Perhaps ozone that broke down the plastic/rubber covers?

It is really disappointed as I did like the headphones.

Unless Bose improve the contruction and materials, DON'T buy it. Your headphones will break and deteriorate regardless how you take care of it.
On my last trans-Pacific trip on business class, the airline loaned me a set of QC-3, and I hate to say that it was of the very same contruction and material as the QC-2. So there is no improvement there! The expensive headphone will not last.

5 out of 5 stars Pillow Headphones   December 16, 2008

These headphones are by far the best I have ever owned. They surround your ear to give you the best sound quality from a headphone I have ever seen while eliminating outside noises. They honestly feel like pillows on my ears while I wear them for just about everything I do. Their great sound quality is the best I've ever heard next to a full surround sound system. Highly recommended if you decide to invest the money in headphones.

After reading about 20 reviews, I came to the conclusion that the QC2's were right for me--I have never regretted my decision. I never leave home without them. The overear takes a little getting used to, but after a couple of wears you don't notice any difference. You only need to sit in front, behind or next to a screaming baby once to realize why the overear model is superior.

I preface my comments by saying that I took excellent care of both pair of my headphones - when they were not on my head, they were in their case. Prudent care however, is no guarantee that this product, with regular use, will live out the 12 month warranty period. First pair: along about the 10th month, pieces of plastic broke off and I noticed hair line cracks in several locations. I called Bose and they replaced them. Second pair: lasted about 9 months before cracks appeared and pieces fell to my desktop. I called Bose and they said they would be happy to send me a replacement if I would send them $100.

I expect $300 headphones to perform like $300 headphones - I don't expect them to fall to pieces. I declined the $100 offer and I've done my best to scotch tape pair #2 together so that I can use them. Alas, they're a pitiful sight as one side droops to about mid-ear and of course there is the scotch tape.

Given my experience, I now question whether ANY Bose product is worth the asking price. Sadly, the perception of quality appears to be only that and not rooted in reality.
