A little confusing at first, but it works well December 14, 2008 Eric C. Anderson (Gardnerville, NV) A new era of manual concepts: a series of sketches you are supposed to find completely helpful... NOT. It took some guessing and tinkering to figure out the battery insertion process. And, why is it that iPhone 3G compliant products (as claimed) cause the iPhone to say "this is not compatible with the iPhone" when you plug it in? Hmmm... After some tinkering, I got it working. At first, the remote control did not work, so I tried putting the battery in the other way. No dice. When I reversed it again, it was working. It seems to work fine, although you are warned by the iPhone that the phone signal will interfere with the audio. During my tests, I did not notice this problem, but then I did not receive or make a phone call. The buttons attach securely to the steering wheel, and if you position it appropriately, is fairly handy to access. What I could not seem to get to work in a sensible manner is the shuffle button. I could get it into shuffle (you have to stop playing, and return the iPhone to the album list - at least that is how I got it to work), but I could not get it out of shuffle mode (without unplugging from power and the iPhone, and then replugging). Probably something simple - I just gave up trying to figure it out. This gets back to the non-manual described above. No real information about how the product is supposed to work, but pages of useless warranty info. Anyway, if you play around, you will probably figure out how shuffle is supposed to work. For me, it was enough to get shuffle going, and then use the play/stop, next and previous buttons to control the music. Conclusion: lousy manual, but simple enough so you can get it to work with a little effort. Once you have made it through that, it just works.
Very nice, but with a small iphone problem December 8, 2008 Alisha Clarke 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This has worked very well for me in my 2007 Honda CR-V. The only problems I've encountered with my iPhone is that the "shuffle" does not work, and occasionally when plugged in, the iphone comes up with a message that the device is not compatible and asks if you want to turn on "airplane mode" (which would disable cellular calls). If you continue with "no", the steering wheel controls do not work at all. The resolution is to unplug it, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. It's a nuisance, but the device has still been a good choice for me (not knowing of any better options).
Charger connector is loose November 26, 2008 Daleel (New York) I bought this product to make use of the AUX connector on my '09 Honda Pilot. I wanted to connect my IPhone 3G and the idea of a single connector for recharging and playing mp3s sounded like a good idea. In terms of sound quality, it's definitely better than an FM transmitter. However, the down side is that the charger connector (as many people in this forum have observed) is very, very loose. In my case, it caused problems with the sound, at times, only coming out from the left speakers. I had to jiggle it a lot so that the sound would properly come out from both right and left-side speakers. When I hit bumps, it would also cause the right side of the speakers to fade out. If they fix the charger connector, this would be a much better product. As it is now, I'm going to return it, and use separate cables for the charger and the aux.
Works well November 25, 2008 Scott W. Morgan (Walnut Creek, CA USA) Works ad advertised. The sound is great, and like most Kensington products it is built well. The only thing I would change would be the remotes suggested location. I found that it did not work well on the steering wheel, but when attached to the transmission lever it did. On the steering wheel it was always in the wrong place when I wanted it, and I kept moving it around. On the transmission lever, it is out of the way, but very user friendly when I want to use it.
iPhone Car Option November 24, 2008 lrvaler (Chicago, IL, USA) Overall, it works great. However, a minor limitation is that the accessory outlet is located near the AUX input for your stereo. The kit comes with an extension cord that will help. The remote works, although, it can be a little inconsistent. Additionally, the remote only works with basic functions, and is relatively small, and can be lost easily. Lastly, you do occasionally get the "Accessory is not made for iPhone", but all in all, it is a good product.
