4 out of 5 stars Works well for me   September 8, 2008

As someone that uses a mp3 player everyday and for aprox 3 hours a day.....I have been very happy with the V-moda ear buds. I have used the bose tri-ports for many years and faced problems like poor design and comfort level, clear but low sound and lots of breakage. 4 times I had to swap out that product due to unexceptable wear and tear. I have been very please with the sound quality, bass level and comfort of the V-modas. They fit nice and snug, look great and sound fabulous.

There are two types of earbuds, one that sits next to the ear and lodges itself to not fall out, and the other fits into the ear canal like the V-Moda. I had a good pair ($20) of the next to your ear type to compare this to.

These earbuds are good but I would have a hard time justifying 4 times the cost at $80. Should I expect to have 4 times the performance? I understand as you move up the quality scale you pay a lot more for little improvement. But, I wonder how much of the improvement comes from just being inside the ear which gets the sound device closer to the ear drum and cuts out ambient noise. If I could shove my $20 earbuds in my ear canal I would know for sure. I suspect, that it wouldn't be that much different.

There is a down side to having a device like this in the ear canal. I can't explain why but you can hear yourself breathe like Darth Vader when you have them in. If you are relaxed and not breathing hard it is not so noticeable. If you are exercising it is more noticeable. I would not advise anyone to eat celery or cereal while wearing them because you probably won't be able to hear anything over all the crunching. If you adjust them further out of the ear this phenomena is gone, but you loose the deep bases and sweet highs that you bought them for in the first place and they sound about the same as my $20 pair next to your ear type.

Maybe I am just cynical but I wish someone would have told me all this before and I might have kept looking for the perfect earbud with my $80. Don't get me wrong, these earbuds are very good shoved deep in the ear but you do give up something to get the gain. Overall I like them. They are well made and sound great deep in the ear.

4 out of 5 stars Right out of the box   September 7, 2008

Great fit, great sound. I am a base head and there is plenty of that. I'm told there is a burn-in time after which the sound quality is supposed to get even better. The only concern I have is the fragility noted by several other reviewers. Sound quality is 5-Star. Time will tell if they are too fragile. I'll give them 4-Stars until I determine if they will hold up over time.

4 out of 5 stars Works as advertised...   September 6, 2008

Overall, I'd say this product delivers more than what the stock earbuds do. It offers a well balanced frequency range but it does bias on the low/bass side. I use this for my iPhone and it doesn't have a mic. V.Moda offers another version called the Duo, if you're interested in having a mic.

Anyways, the earbuds fit directly into your ear canal and muffles out, I'd say, 80% of all outside noise to better isolates the sound. I can wear these hours on end without having any probs (ear-strain or pain). They include three size fittings to accommodate various ear sizes...

4 out of 5 stars Great sound, Great looks   September 5, 2008

Pros: -Aesthetically beautifull product
-Great Sound
-Good Warranty (wich assures me that even if the rumours about the breakability of these headphones are true i'll still be able to replace them)

Cons: I have read a LOT of reviews and rumours that theese headphones are esasy to break and stop working in a short time.

Summary: I really like how theese headphones look, my main concern is audio though. I just opened the box and really liked what i saw, the headphones are really shiny and look metalic, the look like a very fine, top notch product... although the are way smaller than I expected!
WARNING: Quality headhones need 8 to 10 hours of use to get to their best sound. In my case, i've been using them for about 20 minutes but the sound is already great to say the least. It IS TRUE: these headphones are bass heavy, but the bass doesn't feel heavy, neither it doesnt seem to overpower the rest of sounds. I really like theese headphones so far, i will keep using them for about a week and see how they behave and post a review again.

So... to end this post:
This are great headphones so far (30 minutes)
They look GREAT, like an article of jewelry
Great buy for an experienced listener but if you are new into buying expensive heaphones with a higher sound quality i would reccomend something a little bit cheaper, like the V-MODA bass freq headphones.
