| Customer Reviews:
A well-designed, appropriately priced option May 20, 2008 I bought a refurbished set that I've had for six weeks (I think they're the later version). They're exponentially better than the iPod earbuds. They provide more solid bass and clearer highs and mids. I've had trouble with in-ear headphones fitting before, but these stay pretty snug. The rubber molds flex easily and the three different sizes gave me plenty of options. I could see them possibly jostling loose if you were to run with them, but I haven't tried that yet. Having the two different color molds helps to distinguish right and left, if you have trouble reading the tiny letters.
Though my review is on the set I got from Amazon, my wife also bought a new pair at the Apple Store and her left earbud blew out after a couple of months. We returned them and she was given a full new set in the box (we'd only returned just the headphones). The online return process was easy and we got a newer version than what she had before. A very pleasant process.
I'm giving five stars for aesthetics, price, performance and the returns process (for my wife's pair).
V-Moda EXCELENTE SONIDO!!!! May 10, 2008 Tienes un excelente sonido, claro, con realce de bajos. Son muy buenos y los recomiendo plenamente.
Tiny earbuds, Nice sound May 8, 2008 It surprises me that something so small and light could produce such a pleasant listening experience. Comfort: I have no problem listening to music for two or three hours with these little earbuds inserted into my ears. the lack of an arm with the wire protruding from them like on Sony's MDR EX51LP Fontopia earbuds means that the VMODAS can conform more closely to the angle of my ear without being stopped at some point by the arm holding the wire.
Sound Quality: When I first got them, the bass was "boomy", the mids and highs were somewhat tinny. Realizing that they needed a burn in period, I plugged them into a portable radio with rechargeable batteries, selected an easy listening FM station (basically elevator music), set the volume to a comfortable listening level and let them run for two days and nights under a blanket on an unused bed. After that they were a pleasure to listen to. Not an audiophile's technical dream, but rather, a very nice listening experience that was good for hours of listening pleasure. Smooth bass with clear and mellow mids and highs. Very nice indeed.
Cons: The VMODAS are sensitive enough to clearly pick up the hiss of the poor quality sound card in my laptop and the distortions, pops and clicks of poor quality mp3s whereas before with other earbuds and headphones this was never a problem. To counter the hiss from the crummy sound card, I'm purchasing a Soundblaster PCMCIA card that hopefully will quiet down the background hiss and I've downloaded my favorite music CDs in uncompressed audio format to my harddrive. That's what can happen when you go a step up in audio quality with earbuds or headphones. Worth the trouble though for the increased listening pleasure, in my opinion.
Great earphones with some flaws May 4, 2008 This is the first pair of earphones that I have spent more than $30 for, so I don't know a lot about high quality earphones, but this pair is very comfortable and sounds excellent. I find the cord to be a perfect length, as I often keep my mp3 player in my back pocket.
V-Moda seems to have responded to everyone's complaints about the plug with a bit of overkill. Instead of the smooth, cone shaped plug housing, there is a longer, awkward-looking plug with a textured ring for extra grippiness. I don't like the look very much; I think the textured ring would have been enough to solve problems with unplugging, but that's just me.
The other complaint that I have is probably a general issue with noise-isolating earphones--I can clearly hear every time the cord bumps into or rubs against anything. This makes walking with them kind of annoying. I can only imagine what it's like for people who run with them on. Clipping or otherwise attaching the cord to myself helps a bit but I'd rather not have to deal with it.
A few minor issues: the L/R labels are very difficult to see, so I just use different color squishies to distinguish them, the cord seems to glow purplish in sunlight, and the two sides are equal length (I tend to prefer the behind-the-head capabilities of the uneven style).
That's it. Although I have quite a few complaints, I love the sound and the comfort they provide and would recommend them to anyone looking for a good pair of earphones for a decent price.
Worth the price April 20, 2008 These are very good. I'm not an audiophile, I don't strive for the best possible sound reproduction money can buy, I just want something that sounds good and feels comfortable, and these deliver. They are well made and will last longer than some of the cheap ones I've tried out. They fit better than most ear buds I've tried, and the multiple plug sizes in the box ensure you get a comfortable fit.
