The AT&T EL42208 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Answering System features 5.8 GHz analog technology and a built-in digital answering system. By utilizing the 5.8 GHz spectrum, the EL42208 has better sound quality, enhanced range, and increased security compared to phones that operate on a lower bandwidth, such as 2.4 GHz. The EL42208 includes two handsets (along with a base and a charging cradle) that allows you to use both handsets through a single phone jack and transfer a call from one handset to the other. The phone features a 30 entry phonebook directory and has a lighted keypad and display. The EL42208 is caller ID and call waiting capable, with a 30 name/number caller ID history. An indicator tells you when you have a new call and when you have missed one. A built-in digital answering machine system records messages on microchips for reliable performance, instant access to messages, and the ability to selectively save and delete messages. The answering machine features enough memory for 11 minutes of recording time, and a message time/day stamp lets you know when the missed message was received. The phone is both table- and wall-mountable.

This phone had lousy reception and no range. If I got more then a dozen yards away from the base the static was overwhelming.

We bought this phone because we wanted to be able to disable the ringers on our phones but still receive calls. We're able to do that with this system, so thats cool. But its fundamentally flawed since you can use one handset at a time with the base station. We like to be able to talk to family members with both of us cordless, and you can't do that with this set.
