The microphone had a loud hum with the playback. I found it unacceptable for my purposes.

I bought this to go with my Canon ZR800 camcorder and so glad I did! It greatly improves the audio quality. As other reviewers reported, the major con is that there is no indicator light to show it is on and working, so if the battery goes dead and you have it plugged in, you can take a silent movie without knowing it. Just have to be very scrupulous in turning on and off after using it, and check your video occcasionally to make sure there is sound. But this one is so much cheaper than many others, I think it is worth it for me. Hopefully future models will include an indicator light when it is on.

My microphone produced more hiss than sound. Owners manual was missing and there was no plastic bags either. It appears to be used. I guess mine was a returned unit!
Of course, I did a return... Beware, you may get it!!
