Works for me May 18, 2006 B. Williams 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought these while looking for a headset/mic combo in the under $20 price range. I wasn't expecting them to compare to $1000 studio monitor quality headphones. I see that some of the other user reviews express concerns about the build quality of these units. So far they are just what I wanted, I'll update if anything changes.
good mic and sound, not comfortable to wear for long time April 18, 2006 Jackson Hsu (Rowland Heights, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mic and sound is good for the price. Got them at local store for $14.99. However, the headset doesn't open wide enough for my big head. (never thought my head was big until wearing this headset) Appearantly, it's designed for narrow/small head person. Can't wear it prolong period of time. My ear hurts. Too bad....Have to return to the store.
Great Mic, Awful Construction November 25, 2005 M. Nikolic 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The sound on the headphones of this headset is pretty decent, but let's face it, if you're an audiophile you won't be listening to music with these things. You're buying it strictly for the mic. Luckily, the mic on this headset is one of the best for the price you pay. Many of my other friends paid more money for their headsets and the mic sounded hazy and periodically cut out. Not with this one. In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to give this product 5 stars...if not for the construction. To say this thing is terribly constructed is being far too kind. I have owned five of them throughout the years and every single one has had some sort of defect over time. To have this mic perfectly operational for more than 6 months is little short of a miracle. On one pair, the mic simply stopped working. On another, the left earpiece stopped transmitting sound. The third had both earpieces broken after a few weeks. The 4th and 5th had both earphones and mic busted, for no reason. One day they work fine, the next day, they're completely broken. And on EVERY SINGLE ONE, the earpieces fell out and wouldn't pop back in place. And keep in mind that I take very good care of my products. I've owned tons of tech stuff over the years and have never broken anything (I still have my Sony DJ headphones which I purchased in 1998, and they work perfectly). After it was busted, I opened one up and was aghast at how shoddy the soldering was. Frankly I was surprised they even lasted as long as they did after opening them up. This is without doubt the most fragile product I have ever purchased. I guess for 30 bucks you can take a risk on them and pray you get lucky, but don't expect these things to last you while you're in old age :)
Very good for its price November 5, 2005 cmastro (San Francisco) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After many, many disappointments, finally a headset with a mic I can use. The unit is light and of stamped plastic, so the various joints (mic and speakers) may not last long or to abuse. The boom extension mechanism is quite good, and the mic is very sensitive when coupled with the 20dB boost on my sound card. The mic could use a foam sleeve, to reduce breathing noises. The swiwel of the earpieces is not welcome, since it attenuates bass reproduction quite a bit (press lightly on the earpieces to appreciate the difference). For the price, quite a good headset that does not disappoint.
The Best August 12, 2005 C. A. Luster (Burke, VA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I will have to disagree with all the negative reviews. I have used Plantronics headsets for about ten years. When they were not available to me I tried every other brand on the market. I always came back to Plantronics as soon as I could. Why? They are lighter than most other models. Now this may mean you can't sit on them or throw them around, but anyone with a modicum of care can easily have them last for years. In fact they will last for years. Mine typically last me at least three years before the ear piece foam gets worn out or the volume control does. Now three years of lightweight excellent sound quality is plenty to me for this price. If you think other brands are better please buy them. Other brands I tried were heavy, clipped to tight to my head, fell off my head, had poor stereo sound and/or poor quality microphone, and did not last more than a few months or I couldn't stand them so I threw them away. One other thing, these are the folks that did the headsets for NASA when we went to the moon, so they know their business. If you are looking for a lightweight good stereo headset for long hours of computer gaming, this is a great one for the price. If you are looking for a bulky, heavy construction, hurt your ears after hours of wear, super sound headset, why are you here? This was not designed for that purpose. Plantronics certainly has them as well but that's another model. I suggest you go look at www.plantronics.com to get an idea of all the models they make. You will then see Amazon carries several with good pricing.
