ear tips October 6, 2008 V. Chan pretty nice product. Initially concerned that there was no bass. When I played around with the ear tips, I found that the medium one fit and provided better bass and isolation. play around with the tips.
Excellent headphones October 5, 2008 Mallorie E. Smithwick Perfect sound cancellation and with all the different foam bud sizes, it was easy to find the perfect fit. They stay in your ears very well, even when jogging. They are worth every penny.
Not worth $100 September 15, 2008 M. Mery (New York) Thanks for everyone's helpful reviews. To begin, I like to hear warm, rich sound. Bass is the soul of music--crucial to any good headphones. These Shures have clear sound that is very flat--it is not rich, it is clear though. The sound isolation of the buds is excellent; the sounds of the NYC subway are blocked out incredibly well. The cord management of these headphones is brilliant. The sound is pretty bad for what they cost. Personally, I prefer the Bose in-ears. Their sound is excellently balanaced, they give music some life. These are blaaaaaah. Definitely gonna return them.
Good but not perfect September 7, 2008 Andrew The Shure SE110s are excellent earbuds for the casual listener, however the more discerning listener and the amateur audiophile should probably go for more expensive Shures. First, the build quality on these earbuds is fantastic. I have owned various in-ear earbuds prior to my purchase of these Shures and I have always had each one lose their electrical conductivity between the wire and the driver in the earbud. The Shures are designed to withstand this flaw as the wire leading into the earbud is meshed with a strong rubbery frame that covers the outside of the earbud. Second, sound quality is very good but not perfect. The SE-110s have very strong mid-frequencies but weaker lower and higher frequencies. The bass and lower frequencies in these earbuds are clean and well-defined but not as strong or as deep as competing earbuds. I have also found that the SE-110s have trouble with frequencies below 65Hz. I have managed to push them to produce a satisfying rumble at 30 Hz but as a result, the mid and higher frequencies become extremely distorted. However with EQ adjustments, the Shure's bass and high treble frequencies can be boosted to compensate for these minor shortcomings. Overall, the sound quality in the Shures are definitely a level above the sound quality that you get in ordinary iPod earbuds and are, in many areas, on par with similar Bose products. Third, the sound isolation is so effective, I frequently miss phone calls as I can no longer hear my cellphone ring when I have the SE-110s in my ears. This often results in funny stares from people around me while I'm listening in public. The SE-110 employs an included fit-kit complete with three different sizes of rubber and foam tips. I have found the foam tips to offer slightly better sound isolation and better comfort than the rubber tips but they can be a bit tricky and require a little practice to place them properly in your ears. Overall, the Shure SE-110s are an excellent upgrade from the standard iPod earbuds and offer incredible sound isolation, decent sound quality, and are solidly built to last.
Slight improvement over standard earbuds September 5, 2008 givemerock (Plainfield, IL United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pros: Fairly descent sound across the board and fairly comfortable too. Cons: For $100 not a BIG difference from standard iPod earbuds. This is a comparison to the standard earbuds that come with the iPod Touch, SE110's and the Bose in ear headphones. The Bose (which I just returned) had good BASS to them but they had really flat & muddy sounding highs & mids. The SE110's are fairly comfortable with varying ear pieces to create the proper fit. This is very important. You need to create the proper seal to get the best sound and sound isolation. The sound is honestly only SLIGHTLY better than the standard iPod earbuds. That's mainly because of the outside noise that they block (which the earbuds don't). I wouldn't say these are worth $70 more than the standard earbuds (which cost $30). Just a small improvement across the board from typical earbuds. The sound is equal and clean (from Bass to Mids to Highs). The bass could be stronger though. The Bose are much stronger in that area. In general if your looking for sound isolation and only a slight improvement over standard earbuds these might be for you. For me their going back. I guess more $$$$ are needed to get something good. From what I've read it sounds like "Westone UM2's" are the way to go. Awesome sound & comfort.
