1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY   April 21, 2007

These are terrible headphones for multiple reasons:

1. The sound quality is horrendous. They do not play any sound range very well (high, medium, or low), but the high range sounds in particular, are worthless. They are all really muted, and it sounds very similar to when you listen to a low bit-rate mp3.

2. These headphones to not fit like your typical safety headphones, where the padded area fits to your head, around your ears. These headphones just rest on top of your ears. This is a problem, because it doesn't block out nearly as much noise when it's resting on your ears, as when it's fitting snugly to your head.

3. The electric sound-canceling function is rubbish. It does almost nothing to cancel any outside noise. As my brother said when he used them "All it does [when you turn on the sound-canceling switch] is turn the music up a little louder." The way all noise canceling headphones work (even the expensive ones), is they generate a mid-range tone, like a white noise, that blocks out most of the surrounding mid-range tones around you (like the hum of airplane, the buzz of a lawnmower, or the chatter of people talking). The strength (i.e. loudness) of the mid-range tone that the headphones put out, directly relates to how much noise the headphones cancel out. These headphones barely put out any noise canceling tone at all! It's so weak, that you can barely hear it. It does next to nothing to removing any outside noise. I bought a pair of cheap "Innovative Technology" headphones for $10.00 a few months back, and they worked way better then these Cyber Acoustics ones.

Basically, these headphones are complete garbage. I returned them the day after a bought them. SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE.

1 out of 5 stars Lousy   October 5, 2006

I got these as a sad gift -

The overall sound quality is quite bad (when NC - Noise Cancellaton-is turned off). Not much low frequency and minimal high frequency content. So purely as headphones - they fall at the bottom of the heap.

With NC turned on, there is some amplification of the sound - so it sounds louder. The NC effect itself - well - its kind of works, but not much. Probably about 20 percent of the noise is taken care of. Don't even try comparing the performance of the Bose to these (I did so - using a co-passengers Bose QC3 - and it was a revelation - one works beautifully and this one barely does so). I plan to get a pair of Panasonic RPHC300 now (Since I don't have $300 to burn).
I am curious how the NC effect is implemented for the left and right earpieces. There is no wire that connects the right side (with the battery and NC electronics) with the left earpiece. Go figure this one out :). I have some ideas - but that would mean this is not a stereo headset. Too lazy to experiment further with this piece of junk.

The good thing is they fold quite well.

1 out of 5 stars Poor noise cancelling   February 19, 2006

Wouldn't recommend these headphones. There is a noticable hiss when the noise cancellation is on. Does not drown out low frequencies very well. The audio quality is also poor.
Go for something else.

4 out of 5 stars Good job for the price   November 25, 2005

Obviously these headphones are not like the Bose ones, but they do a good job. They work in three ways:
- They fit closely to the ears, cutting out high frequencies
- They suppress mid-low frequencies actively
- They raise the mid/low frequency spectrum of the music.
Being aimed at "mechanical noise", they get rid of most of the server-fan noise in my office and reduce also a bit talking/typing (talking becomes inaudiable with medium-level music).
The main con is that the increased mid/low frequencies can get annoying - so I simply adjust the equalizer of my mp3 player. The joint that make them foldable might get annoying, depending on how you wear them and on how mych cushioning is provided by your hair. Also for some people the leather cushioning might get a bit hot on the ears, but they only "fit on" and don't "hug" the ears.
Overall the music quality is ok, and they're a good investment if you don't look for perfection or you don't want to spend >$100.
