New to headphones Koss KTXPro1 August 25, 2008 Purchased the headphones based on reviews and I was not disappointed. They are used on a Sansa View MP3 player. Phones rest on the ears and that is the style I wanted; no heat build up.
ok for the price August 20, 2008 i had bought these headphones based on a review that compared them to the optimus pro 25 so i allready had high expectations (made by koss). these headphones are ok but no where near as good as the old pro 25's. compared to the old headphones the sound is a little muddy (treble is not as defined and midrange is more prominant), keep in mind a am very picky. not the incredible deal the old headphones were but they are just ok better then the cheapy headphones they would package along with most products. actually if you don't mind about having to increase the treble and the bass to get rid of some of the mid range and give you clearer highs they aren't as bad as I make them out to be (but still not the 25's). they are louder than the 25's
i should mention if you ears move with these headphones on you can hear the plastic creak but you could probably just grease where the plastic meets and be done with it.
real bang per buck August 5, 2008 First let me start by saying I am not an audiophile, I just like a good sound. Many years ago I decided to splash out more money than I ever had before on a decent pair of headphones for listening to my records (yes I still love vinyl). Having read all the reviews I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD340s. These turned out to be exactly what I wanted and served me faithfully over the intervening years. A couple of months ago, however, I went away having left my headphones plugged in and the amp still on. When I got back a resonant frequency had built up in the system somehow and had blown my best beloved phones - Time for replacements.
Having looked at quite a few review sites I decide on buying some Grado SR80s but at the same time decided to get a budget pair for travel. Initially I was going to get some i-Grado portables but I do not like the round the back of the head design. Next I considered Sennheiser PX100s but some of the few negative reviews made me look at alternatives. It was then that I came across the Koss KTRPRO1s. The reviews seemed good and at the price I felt I could afford to make a mistake (if they were no good I'd give them to my son for his MP3 player). Now it must be remembered that I have not had these long and that I like a good bass to my music, but I actually prefer them to the SR80s. The concentrated design allows the volume to rise above that of the open backed Grado's (I do like dials to go to eleven especially after a couple of beers and as an impressionable youth spent the night with my head in a bass speaker at a Gillan concert hence the need for bass). For the money I just don't think you can beat these and now that my son has found them we are fighting each night over who is going to get them - him for his MP3 and me on my system. At this price will probably buy a couple more sets to stop arguments and have backup. Well done Koss.
Great Headphones, Great Price July 30, 2008 I originally bought these headphones at RadioShack. They were rebranded as Koss PRO35A and cost $40. I was happy with them despite the price. After reading about these online, I realized I was a victim of an obscene mark-up. I returned them and bought a pair from here. These are great headphones.
Pros: clear rich sound, good bass, good treble, decent mids, good style, good price, comfortable, l-shaped plug, short cord (may be a con for some)
Cons: Nothing considerable. They don't seem like the sturdiest headphones. However, this means they're portable and light-weight. I can't expect much more for the price.
If you want some practical headphones for your mp3 player and you hate ear-buds like me, then buy these!
had to break my Senn's to even try them July 14, 2008 So my Sennheiser HD 595 phones developed a hiss in the left speaker, and the warranty has expired. I was so down for a week it was actually kind of sad. I just listen to these things all the time. I am a headphone geek and an audiophile. So I pull these out of the bottom of a box. I had purchased them two years ago for the wife who never used them. I hooked them up to my headfive headphone amp to listen to a podcast. When it ended, it jumped straight to music - and I was blown away. Listen: these are 15 dollar headphones that totally hang with Grado 60s, Sennheiser portables, etc. They destroy crappy skullcandy headphones and overpriced sony phones. If you are a poor highschooler wanting something that 'gets' music, these get it. Channel separation is great on these little things. I cannot believe the bass quality. There is a midbass hump but I think the midrange is richer than some have suggested in other reviews. Will send out the Senns to get fixed, but I won't be crying about it in the meantime. Yes, that is amazing as the Senns are 300 dollar phones.
