Very Good September 8, 2008
After using this on a recent trip to Los Angeles/San Francisco, I would rate this product as pretty good. It works as designed. Did not fall off the dash. It was very easy to put up and take down my GPS as needed. Just keep in mind that the base is a little big, but I guess it has to in order to hold onto your GPS. Recommended.

I like the product. It is not as Spiderman as I would like but on some parts of the dash it does not move around. It only slides if its on a big slope of the dash. For the convenience of quick storage this product is nide and you can set it in you or your passengers lap to program the GPS if desired. I use it with a StreetPilot 550. It would work even better with a Nuvi as they are lighter.

This device is very secure and stays put on the dash, even in curved sections. I like being able to set it on the floor or move the device from car to car (vs. the glass mount). The base is rather large however, check the base dimensions before ordering.

I feel more secure with the dashboard mount than with the window suction mount. I had problems with the window mount letting lose a couple times and decided I rather be safe than sorry and glad I made the purchase.

The Garmin dashboard mount does a very good job of keeping the the navigation device in place on the dashboard. I live in one (MN) of 2 states (MN,CA) that prohibit use of the windshield mounted devices for the navigation devices. Our legislators, in their infinite wisdom, would rather have someone hand-holding, lap-holding, or passenger-seat holding their devices than having it attached on the windshield. These laws seem to make very little sense as the dashboard seems to be one of the safer places to mount the devices as you can continue to see the road as you refer to the device. By the way, these laws are very routinely ignored by the public and by law-enforcement in MN.
I was never really satisfied with the windshield mount that came with my device. I didn't feel I could find a really good location that would allow good viewing (and minimized sun interference). The windshield mount stuck fairly well on the windshield but occasionally would come off. I didn't find it the easiest to separate the navigator from the device either. Additionally, unless you wanted to advertise that you had a device available for theft you had to remove the windshield holder when parking anyway (probably not as big a deal as the devices become cheaper). The dashboard mount addresses all of my complaints with windshield mounted unit. Additionally, it hasn't moved on me since I have begun using it. I am happy with it, I am now legal in my nanny-state (MN) and I think it is the way to go.
