3 out of 5 stars Caution, Not for the Oregon   October 19, 2008
S. Downs (Austin, TX USA)
I just got a Garmin Oregon GPS and looked for a auto kit for it. Somehow I came up with this one as the one to get. Well, the adapter-end that goes into the unit is facing the wrong direction. It is bent at a 90 degree angle and must be plugged in from under the front of the unit. The problem is that with the 90 degree angle, and the case, there is only about 1/8 inch that is available to actually go into the USB connection. The result? The power cord does not hold a connection and the unit goes into and out of power mode... I ended up filing down part of the connector (where it meets the case) and used a velcro strap to hold the connector in place. Not what I thought I was getting into...

1 out of 5 stars Charger doesn't fit the Oregon   October 6, 2008

The product is not meant for the Oregon , though it's listed as a 'recommended accessory". The connector is at a right angle and does not fit properly.

4 out of 5 stars Garmin Auto Nav Kit works very well   October 1, 2008
R. Long (New York)
This kit includes a mounting bracket with a built in suction cup (for mounting to the windshield) and an adhesive disk (for mounting to the dashboard) and a vehicle power cable. The mounting bracket will work with either the Garmin Colorado or the Garmin Oregon (I have the Oregon).

I've used the kit several times in two different vehicles using the suction cup to mount the GPSr to the windshield - it works extremely well. The suction cup holds well, even on bumpy roads. It's easy to quickly attach the GPSr to the mount or remove it from the mount (a great improvement over the mount for the Garmin 60CSx, which I've also used). The articulated arm of the mount, with a ball and socket arrangement, allow easy adjustment of the mount in all three axis, making it easy to adjust to windshields with different degrees of slope and easy to tilt the GPSr screen to the right angle for viewing.

The only criticism I have is that the right angle power cable is difficult to attach once the GPSr is in the mount, mainly because you cannot see the attachment point on the bottom of the GPSr (the port is recessed and the front of the case obscures your view). However, it's easy to plug in the power cable and then mount the GPSr, so this isn't a major drawback.

When I first started using the unit with the vehicle power cable, the GPSr kept going into Mass Storage Mode, which makes no sense as the way to respond to attaching a vehicle power cable (you'd think the GPSr could identify the power cable as NOT being a USB cable). However, that problem was easily solved by setting the GPSr Interface to "Garmin Spanner", which causes the GPSr to prompt re: mass storage mode when connected to power (which allows you to say no).

I highly recommend this kit - the relatively small drawbacks are more than made up for by the convenience (and safety) of having your GPSr mounted out of your driving line of sight, but where you can easily see the screen.

5 out of 5 stars Improves a great GPS   August 17, 2008

I've been love with my Garmin Colorado 400t Handheld GPS Unit with US Topographic Preloaded Maps ever since I got it. I've been using it for geocaching, hiking, and driving from day one. Now that I've got this kit, it just kicked the driving use up a notch. The hook-up is easy. The window mount makes it easy to move between cars. I'm taking it vacation with me next week because I know it will improve my navigation there. This is just a great addition to my 400t.

5 out of 5 stars Auto navigation   July 21, 2008

The auto kit works like a charm. The suction cup held on over some pretty nasty off-road trekking.
