 Practical and easy to use September 2, 2008
This attractive car adaptor makes it easy to listen to your iPod while driving!
Just plug one end into the cigarette lighter, and the other into your iPod. Then wrap the remote selector around your steering wheel and you're in business!
One word of advice, though -- make sure the selector's velcro strap is secured tightly around the wheel, or it will slide -- a distraction I'm sure no one needs while driving. Other than that precaution, I have to say I am overall pleased with this product.
 Great Idea, Poor Quality August 30, 2008
I purchased the Liquid Aux for my Iphone 3G.
1. The day I put it in my car, the plastic case surrounding the dock plug fell off exposing the circuit under the plastic. I super glued it back together and continued using the product.
2. If you plug the phone into the unit and then turn the car on, the remote ceases to function. I found to use the remote, I have to turn the car on, wait for the orange light to come on the LiquidAux unit and then I can plug my Iphone in.
3. After 1 week of use, the unit ceased functioning. No orange light, no power supplied to my phone, no audio through to my radio.
I had very high hopes for this item seeing as it is one of the only charger/aux/remote units for the Iphone 3G. I am sad to report that I will return this and I am very disappointed.
 Worked -- Sort of -- For a Week August 29, 2008
Primary gripe:
Cheap plug that clips to the base of the phone. Plastic casing broke and exposed wiring detached from solder points. Bought at an Apple retail store but cant return given it malfunctioned while in my possession. Like another reviewer, I handled the unit with care. It's an iPhone, not a pair of cheap sunglasses. Owned for one week. Sad.
Secondary gripe:
Aux out is no good for cars not equipped with with an aux in. I'm amazed at the number of new iPhone 3g car chargers that don't address this need. Tried to remedy by purchasing a 3.5mm stereo female to female coupler to connect a cassette adapter (cheap buy at RadioShack) but the sound was blown out -- not a function of the coupler.
Last follow-up gripe:
Without a direct aux out for a cassette adapter, cord management is a nightmare. I wish Belkin would make a new version of their Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector. Lasted years and had a built in volume adjustment on the charger/adapter, but won't charge a 3g iPhone. Please, can't anyone manufacture a decent car charger for the 3g?! This can't be that hard.
 Very handy device August 27, 2008
I've used the Belkin Auto Kit for several years to connect my iPod to my car's stereo. When I saw this device I thought it might be a good upgrade and it has generally proven to be a slightly nicer unit than the Belkin.
The most significant difference between this device and the Belkin is the remote control. This has proven to be extremely handy. No fumbling for the iPod when the phone rings or whatever, just hit pause on the remote. I had the remote on the steering wheel initially, but I found that somewhat annoying (kept bumping it while turning), so I moved it to my handbrake, which works great. The remote consists of two parts, a rubber and velcro combo that wraps around your steering wheel or handbrake, and a small electronics package that slips into the rubber piece. It's designed so that the electronics package can be flipped around so you can place the remote on either side of your steering wheel and have it right-side up either way. I've found the remote perfectly reliable, it has never not transmitted a remote click as far as I can remember.
After the remote I'd say the next improvement over the Belkin is that the audio output cable is integrated, whereas the Belkin just has an audio jack and you have to supply your own cable. The output cable is fairly short (maybe 6 inches), and an extension cable is included. The short cable is the perfect length for my car so that worked great.
A few other notes on the positive side: The cables are all cloth wrapped, which is a nice touch. There's no volume knob like on the Belkin. I consider this a positive, since cheap volume knobs tend to fail after a while and I bumped it a few times accidentally and turned the volume down. My car's stereo has an adjustment for the aux input to match the volume to other inputs, so I didn't need a external volume control.
My main negative is that my unit failed after about a month. However, I contacted Kensington's support via their website and they handled the replacement very well. They just sent me a new unit and told me to dispose of the broken one. Other than that, I concur with other reviewers that the power plug doesn't hold quite as tightly as one might wish, although that hasn't proven to be a problem for me. The cables are slightly stiff, could be annoying if you're trying to bundle them up. Also, the Belkin came with a strip of velcro on the iPod cable that allowed you to cleanly and easily wrap it up to the desired length. It would be nice if the Kensington included something similar.
Overall I'd say the remote makes this worth the premium over the Belkin unit.
Nice try, but a fatal flaw with the ipod Classic August 26, 2008
Apparently Kensington isn't aware that the LiquidAux has a design flaw when connected to the ipod Classic 80GB (might be the 160GB as well). Everything works as advertised EXCEPT the ipod will never go into "sleep" mode if it is plugged into the dock connector. This causes the battery to drain and if you are not in your car for a day or so your ipod will be dead. Then when you turn the car on, the ipod is forced to "charge" and you cannot listen to any music. I tested this with my ipod nano and the nano does go into "sleep" mode after a few minutes when the car is turned off.
Kensington phone support was useless and email support said "We are sorry for inconvenience you have with our product. However, I will forward this issue to our R&D department and they might come up with a device in future but I cannot give you any time frame."
If you have an ipod Classic, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
