Music Lover's Dream June 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok, I received these headphones and decided to put them to the test. I've tried them with my day to day scenarios for the noise canceling and about every music type known to man.
Noise cancelling: With no music, you can still hear surrounding sounds. I can still hear the people talking beside me, the taps on the keyboard as I write this (although barely audible). The sound is equivalent to having hearing loss in your ear due to a stuffy nose, cold, or having earplugs in. With music on, you can hear nothing of the outside world, at the very least with low volume a conversation at normal volume sounds like whispers. Sooo can these headphones: - Block out annoying conversations from coworkers/relatives/spouses? Without music with noise cancelling, eh kinda- the sound is muffled With music- everyone becomes a mime
- Block out everyday ambiance (Ie- computer sounds/hums, air conditioners) Without music- yes, noise is still audible but at a much lower level, almost inaudible With music- yes
- Block out other forms of loud noise ( rival music stereos, television/movies) Without music- kinda- still audible to be able to understand what's going on in the outside world With music- depending on the volume of the music- reduced to no sound.
Listening to music itself: Music sounds wonderful- like it is really supposed to sound. Really good bass and treble and the voices are extremely clear. I put these headphones to the test with different selections of music including Lounge (Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin), Classical (Mozart,Beethoven,as well as various instrumental soundtracks such as Ever After and Braveheart), Heavy Metal (All That Remains, Cradle of Filth, Atreyu, Metallica,Rammstein etc etc), Classic Rock (The Eagles, The Animals, Led Zeppelin),pop ( Pussycat Dolls, Shakira, Black Eyed Peas etc ), Rap (Xzibt, Ludacris, Eminem, Crime Mobb etc), Spanish music (Salsa and Merengue), and New Age (Loreena Mckennit, Pure Moods soundtrack) and all sounded brilliant. Nothing was left to be desired.
Watching movies and youtube videos and the like:
Good, crisp sound and sound effects. Vocals are more pronounced.
Other perks:
Lifetime warranty through Skullcandy. Should the headphones be damaged because they broke due to negligence and wear- Skullcandy will replace them at a 50% deduction of reguar cost.
It has a clip for airline use, just in case you want to actually enjoy your in flight film without listening to the screaming disgruntled child 5 rows up
Nifty bag that comes with it is a nice touch
The headphones fold to fit in any purse, making them only mildly larger than a softball. Very nifty.
White noise:
When the noise canceling feature is on, there is a sort of subliminal hiss, but really- it isn't that bad. I find it similar to listening to dead silence.
Headphone fit:
Maybe I have a smaller head, I don't know, but I didn't have a problem. The headphones are a snug fit, but the band is adjustable to fit for comfort.
Sturdiness:
I haven't had these headphones very long- but they appear to be very sturdy in structure- and I'm such a klutz, if they can survive me, they can survive anyone.
I gave these headphones a four only because I thought they would cancel more noise from the outside world - all things considered, however, I feel these are excellent headphones for the price and would give Bose a run for their money. With these headphones- I was taken away to another place. Beautiful quality and good price.
Very Excellent April 19, 2008 These headphones are amazing for their price. Granted, the Bose are better, but for 1/3 the price, who can complain?
the price is right. April 18, 2008 the sound cancellation isn't as good as a bose, but good enough. and the sound is great. but the best part...it's a fraction of the price of other headphones.
Fantabulous! April 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had never owned or used noise-cancelling headphones, but a planned 12-14 plane trip prompted me to look into them. I picked these based on the reviews and price (just couldn't justify $300 for Bose). They were amazing! I used them on the plane there and back and never had to change a battery. The pounding headache I usually get from engine noise never happened. I also thought the sound quality was great. They also fit my head and ears well. I highly recommend these!
Good value March 5, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
For the money, a tremendous value. I wanted a solution to cut airplane noise, but I didn't want to shell out north of $100. Used on several flights since receipt - they are very comfortable, and I have a big head! Dramatic reduction in noise, and decent sound quality w/ my mp3 player - all I wanted.
