Product Description
APC's DC to AC Inverters allow you to keep working, whether you're on the road or in the air. Designed for the mobile professional as well as recreational user, APC's inverters supply you with normal household AC power whenever you're near a 12 volt DC power outlet, like those found in a car, RV or boat. Selected models also feature an airline adapter, which allows you to plug into the seat power receptacle on a plane, and eliminates the need to buy expensive back up batteries.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars works great in the plane, in the car.   June 18, 2008

I bought this because I fly once a year to India. and the 14 hour direct flight is BRUTAL - but no more. I used it to keep my laptop charged throughout the flight and watches movies, played games etc. kept myself busy. Works great in the car as well. Great product by APC. The car adapter piece is a cool blue light glow to it. so you know that its operational.

4 out of 5 stars A little big, but it does the job ...   February 19, 2008

I too found this unit to be somewhat large. In fact, I laughed when I opened up the box after it arrived, because it weighed about half as much as my small laptop, and was almost as big. However, it did what it was supposed to do - gave me power in the plane across the ocean. I give it less than five stars for two reasons: it is way bigger than it should be, and it was a pretty tight fit in the plane's socket. I had to really force it into the socket (and I tried more than one) for it to stay put. And even then, the connnection seemed a little precarious. However, it has a super-bright blue LED light to let you know that it is getting power (that's how I knew the plug was in the plane socket correctly). So the bottom line is that it does work, and it is inexpensive. It can also be used in your car lighter socket - that's definitely a plus!

4 out of 5 stars Huge but works well   November 2, 2007

I bought this unit because I was going to be stuck on a plane for 8 hours and I needed an air adapter. Since this also came with the inverter I thought it was a good deal.

I contacted APC to find out if I could take just the air adapter with me, since my DVD player already had a DC plug. They were not able to tell me if it would work.

In the end it was all useless because the airplane had DC sockets under the seats.

So i took away a star for the bulkiness and the lack of knowledge of the manufacturer

4 out of 5 stars Airline power converter   July 5, 2007

Does everything it is supposed to do. The converter box is a bit on the big side, but it's great to have the extra power on long flights. Warning: although the unit is rated at 150 watts, enough to power even 17" laptops, some airlines only provide 65 to 75 watts of power to their power plug. No problem for MP3 players, but power hungry laptops will not get recharged with this, but it will definitely prolong the use.

5 out of 5 stars WORKS GREAT   June 7, 2007

I used it on my plane ride to europe, charged my laptop great as well as my iPod, and would have charged my cell is it had died too! The only downside (and this has to do more from the plane's end the this product) but I could not use the computer or iPod while it was charging, it seemed to take TOO much power, but just the fact on a 9 hour plane ride, I could chrge my laptop during lunch and get right back to work, I was very happy!!

Also works great in the car and in here, you can use the computer WHILE chargeing. We take long car rides, so this really helps (also when waiting to pick the kids p from school!!)

have not tried it on a boat, but I am sure it works great!

I love this charger, especially since it is not a laptop only, I can plug anything in it, that needs power! (well within reason of course, and within the product guidlines, but anything portable!)
