HP could do better May 2, 2007 Bill (New Zealand) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The good news; good colour, good paper handling, few jams, ethernet, card reader. Bad News: It's huge, it's heavy and LOUD, really LOUD, thats every time you print and at random times night and day. It sounds like a car crash that scares the hell out of anyone concentrating on work. In your home it will wake everyone as it does its cycling so needs to be in a closed room at least. Should be supplied with a long cable so you can put it in a closet. Mac software is finally from Jan 2007 fairly stable, but the machine still needs to be switched off/on from time to time to make it work. Guzzles loads of toner cartridges and will use color for greyscale unless you tell it not to. HP printed notice says minimum 5 cartridges for recyle pickup but they actually dont unless you have 10 (in NZ that is). Needs imaging drum too, all at about 4000 pages; all very expensive, may be cheaper to buy a new printer. Fax works but phone line speaker dosent so you dont know if the fax connected unless you print out the confirmation page. Wouldnt scan at first, didnt mind as I had a better scanner but the HP clashed and disabled both. Software update of 1/07 cured this at last, also now dosent hide the user guide either. The Indian support people tried hard but were unable to help with all the software issues earlier, a massive waste of time for me. Still can't centre or print to edges. Strange it prints right to the edge on one side but not the other 3. Back to the noise, imagine if someone sneaked up behind you and dropped a load of metal behind you as you were working; that's the sort of shock you need to be prepared for. If it wasnt so heavy, it would have been thrown out my first floor window. Otherwise its still going after a year so now out of warranty and I'm hoping it will be reliable.

This is a refurbished laserjet printer. I read the ad page very closely trying to determine why the price was so low. Not seeing any reference to used or refurbished I purchased. It was only after I got my receipt from the vendor did the word refurbished appear. I am NOT commenting on the machine, only on the sales page that omits the key word that this is NOT a new machine. Very misleading.
