Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router combines the functionalities of three devices into a single device, a wireless access point, a four-port full-duplex 10/100 Mbps switch and a router. The wireless access point lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network while the switch connects your wired-Ethernet devices together. The router function ties it all together by letting your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The push button setup feature makes it easy to configure your wireless devices. The router serves as a DHCP server, includes an SPI firewall to protect against Internet intruders and also supports VPN pass-through. The WRT54GL even features TKIP and AES to protect your data and privacy with up to 128-bit encryption. With the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers and multi-player games with flexibility, speed, security and simplicity. 5 out of 5 stars Fast, Reliable   January 7, 2009
J. R. Jones Jr. (Erie, PA USA)
I plugged it in a month ago and it has been capable of delivering my ISP's rated throughput (7 mbps) wirelessly. The only time I haven't been able to obtain my ISP's rated throughput is during the busy hours of the day when the internet is busy anyways. I haven't had to restart it once since I got it.

Simply fast and reliable.

5 out of 5 stars Works great, super easy setup   January 7, 2009

5 out of 5 stars Great router when flashed with DD-WRT   January 6, 2009
Jeffrey M. Threlfall (Decatur, IL)
By itself the Linksys WRT54GL is a very capable Wireless router, and will more than satisfy the average consumer. For enthusiasts, the open source firmware DD-WRT (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT54G/GL/GS/GX) turns a $60 router into a device that can compete with $600 models available from Cisco (Linksys' parent company). With DD-WRT, boosting or lowering the gain on the wireless antennas is a snap, making it easy to extend / reduce your coverage range. Likewise, security options and bandwidth monitoring available in DD-WRT far outweigh the stock firmware options. Have an Xbox, PS2/3, Wii that you want to connect to your wireless network? New HDTV that has an Ethernet port? Buy a 2nd WRT54GL and with DD-WRT you can turn it into a wireless client bridge and hook up all of your consoles / HDTVs for a fraction of the cost of buying individual wireless adapters for each.

5 out of 5 stars Great Wireless Router   January 2, 2009
Randy Godfrey (Bellingham, WA USA)
I've been using this router for more than a month now without a single problem. The signal is strong anywhere in the house (3000 sq.ft.)and it seems just as fast as the direct cable modem connection.

There's one drawback for Mac users like me. The set-up wizard CD doesn't work with Mac OS X. I had to call Linksys tech support. The Tech was very helpful, knowledgeable and kind, walking me through the set-up procedure step by step which took maybe 10 minutes or so.

I decided to buy this router by reading the numerous online reviews and watching some video reviews, while keeping cost comparisons in mind. I feel that this router is a great value and from what I've been hearing from my computer "techie" friends, Linksys has a reputation for making quality products.

After a long time using this router, I finally found out why the connection keeps falling....
My cordless phone works in the same frequency (2,4ghz) as the router, they can't work together... so everytime the phone is used, I loose my wireless internet connection...
