Amazon.com Product Description
The Canon BP-300 battery pack is an external battery pack dedicated to the Canon Elan 7 and 7ne SLR cameras. The pack can be used with either four AA-size batteries (alkaline, Ni-CD, or NiMH) or two CR123A lithium batteries as an additional power source. On the vertical grip, it also features a shutter release button, on/off switch, and an AE/FE Lock button for greater convenience and vertical control.

Product Description
The Canon Battery Pack BP-300 is an optional, external battery pack dedicated to both the Canon EOS 30 and EOS 33 models (EOS Elan 7E and Elan 7). The BP-300 enables the camera to be powered by widely available AA-size batteries instead of the two CR123A (or DL 123A) lithium batteries used for these models. The BP-300 can use four AA-size alkaline, Ni-Cd or nickel-hydride batteries.

5 out of 5 stars Why Didn't I Have This To Begin With!   August 1, 2008
James Ward (San Diego, CA)
I purchased a used Elan 7N a few months ago, and it didn't come with the BP-300. Boy was that a mistake! If you're gonna buy ANYthing, buy the BP-300 first, then the camera later. This thing is so right on so many levels, but I'll focus on the two main reasons.
First, like the first reviewer points out, it looks cool. When you go to a party or your favorite bar, and start snapping shots of your friends, wait until you see all the looks your camera gets when you have this thing attached to it. They won't even notice that you're not shooting digital! They'll just be so awestruck by the fact that this camera is so incredible looking, and they'll be certain that the pictures are gonna turn out awesome.
The second thing is, the fact that the BP-300 uses regular old alkaline AA batteries. Unbelievable.
Picture this...you're out taking night shots 20 miles from the nearest drugstore. Suddenly, you realize your CR123 batteries are DOA. What do you do? Well, if you're like me a few months ago, you pack up your gear and drive home, pounding the steering wheel because you forgot to get fresh batteries. And good luck finding lithium batteries at 1:30 in the morning in the middle of nowhere.
But AA batteries? Any gas station or 7-11 is gonna have AA's. Heck, you probably got a few rolling around underneath your seat, next to those petrified french fries.
The BP-300 is a must. No two ways about it.

5 out of 5 stars Have it your way   April 21, 2008

Canon, has been a long time photographic leader. This battery pack is just one of the reasons why Canon has been a true leader. First of all the BP-300, Canon BP300 Battery Pack for Canon Elan 7, 7n & 7ne SLR Cameras, this pack uses the most common batteries, "AA", found anywhere in the world. Second, is the ergonomic hand-grip. The camera body has a great hand-grip and the battery pack also mimics this ergonomic grip on the bottom of the battery pack so it has the same style and feel, for shooting a picture vertically. Finally, the grip has a full function shutter release button in a natural position (the end) for vertical shooting. The design team at Canon really put practicality and real-world shooting experience into this must have accessory. I read a review somewhere once which said that this accessory is so essential without it is like going outside in public undressed. To me, walking around naked is unheard of and so is "not" adding this battery pack to your camera body.

5 out of 5 stars Would not want to be without this!   August 11, 2007

Would not want to be without this! If you take a lot of photos, you will definitely want this as part of your rig.

5 out of 5 stars Why did I wait so long?   June 19, 2007
Imejasan_Photog (California, USA)
Why did I wait so long to buy this accessory? It makes the Elan 7 camera (which is already very easy to use) even easier to use. I like the fact that I can use different kinds of batteries, so I never have to worry about a power source. As you know, a modern SLR camera is just a fancy paperweight without battery juice. This battery grip allows me to shoot and shoot and never worry. It is well made and a pleasure to use. Get it now, before they run out of them! (See what I meant, they are now out of stock!)

5 out of 5 stars A DEFINITE MUST HAVE!!!   September 14, 2004

There are certain things that we want and others which we must have. And if you own a 7 series Elan, this is definitely a must have. I just received mine today and am totally happy with the quality, ease of use, and the fit & finish. I'm sure most of you know that the 7N/7NE has a different finish than the older 7/7E models, but just to let you know, it does blend in well with the newer finish of the 7NE.

I shoot a lot of verticals and although I've yet to use it, I can already tell that it's going to be fun. The camera feels much more balanced and gripping vertical feels very comfortable. And of course there's the 'coolness' factor which the other posts have mentioned. The BP300 gives the Elan 7 a 'professional' look to it. well it's time to saddle up the horse because I'm going for a little shoot in the morning =P
